Early action decisions are supposed to be posted on the Emerson portal on Sunday, December 15th at 3pm EST.

I'm just holding my breath for that letter/email/post (it's my first choice, ahh!), and I figured maybe someone else out there wants to exchange stats or say what they want to major in?

Sooo yeah. There hasn't been any posts about EA this year and I finally broke down and made a college confidential account. I'm really curious if I'll get in and who my future classmates might be. :)

I applied for Film Production, though I'd also be happy with Studio TV Production I've heard mixed things about being accepted to Emerson for your major vs. being accepted to the college in a different major - anyone know if that's possible? They didn't give us an option to list a "second choice" major or anything on the application.

I applied EA for the journalism program. SO nervous/excited for December! I’ve never posted before so not totally sure how to do stats, but I’ll try:

White female
Public high school in Montana
UW GPA: 4.0 (don’t think my school does weighted)
Rank: 1/282
ACT:29
I only took IBs, not APs, and won’t have my scores until this summer.

ECs: design editor on school paper, NHS, Key Club reporter, varsity tennis, Model United Nations, volunteer Sunday school teacher, part-time job at pizza shop

Awards: (nothing great, but) National Latin exam honors, All-State scholastic awards in tennis, letters in band, academics, and tennis

I also did EA for journalism. If Emerson had ED I would have done it in a heartbeat, I visited the campus twice and fall more and more in love with Boston each time I go. I’m so nervous for December, but I will hopefully I get in and can pull all my other applications! My guidance councilor has high hopes for acceptance, but you just can’t be too sure these days.

My stats are:
White female
Public HS in Connecticut
W GPA: 3.9 (not sure about UW…I think it’s around 3.7?)
SAT: 1730 (I know, pretty low…but my CR is 680, W is 610 which makes sense for the major I have declared)
Recommendations: AP Spanish teacher, English teacher/ school advisor, my boss from my NYC internship, and guidance counselor.

ECs: intern for an NYC PR company, intern for the state newspaper, editor for the state newspaper teen section, NHS, varsity cross country runner

I’m worried about my scores because this site says that test scores are “very important” and work experience is only “considered” in the Admissions section of the school facts. Hopefully the fact that recc letters are “important” will help my case and balance out my package…anyone else feeling the same way?

White female, New Jersey
Magnet High School (with my skills/major being in Film)
My school changed their GPA scale each year so that’s hard to answer, but it’s about a 3.2UW ?
I think my essay and recommendation letters were really good, as well as my supplements.
Took almost all honors classes and 2 APs
ACT: 24 but I just retook it, so we’ll see
ECs: almost 200 hours volunteer work, peer leaders/tutors, lots of work experience in the field
I’m also a part time student at a community college with about a 3.0 GPA there

I feel like my stats aren’t the highest, but they’re unique who knows! Good luck to everyone. Only 2 more weeks. So nervous!

HI GUYS!
Emerson is my first choice too! I just can’t wait to find out if I’m accepted.

Applying for Journalism
White female, Minnesota
Tiny parochial school
Rank is 4/30
GPA: 3.9ish Weighted
My essay was pretty good… it was about moving from Hong Kong to my small town in Minnesota and how that affected me. I think my honors college essay was better to be honest. That was about Speech but was presented in a unique way.
I read one of my recommendations and it was good. I’m confident my other recommendation was good as well.
Hardest classes available at my school, including two college English courses (Public Speaking & English Comp.) and an independent-study Philosophy course. We don’t have any AP classes at my school, but like I said, I took the hardest ones I could.
ACT: 32 - Superscored it’s a 33 (36 English, 31 Math, 35 Reading, 31 Science)
ECs: Varsity soccer 5 years, Varsity Speech 4 years (Captain Junior & Senior year), State speech sophomore year (2nd place in Poetry Junior year, Senior year pending), Won a huge Speech camp tournament which resulted in an $8000 scholarship to a different school, Knowledge Bowl 3 years, part-time job as a waitress since April 2011, National Honor Society, Teen Court juror, Spanish Club

If anything, I think my English/Reading ACT scores will help me the most.
I’m really hoping to get into the Honors College. That scholarship would help my family out a lot, especially considering all the travel expenses from Minnesota to Boston. Good luck, everyone!

@happybanana oh! also yes, they do defer to RD. Apparently they rarely deny applicants during EA, just defer a lot. I’m not sure how many specifically they accept, but the rate is slightly higher than their typical 48% acceptance rate. :)

Chances of getting accepted are pretty unlikely… I’m applying for film and my numbers are pretty bad but aside from that everything else is fairly unique so I may have a chance.

White male
2.89 GPA W
1300 SAT score
Pretty solid essay, everyone that read it said they felt inspired (although I did notice that I had a grammatical error toward the end of it [‘then’ should have been than])

@treillyiv95 Oh my gosh! That’s so soon
A few hours ago (or yesterday) it said SUNDAY the 15th, I even screenshotted it. Wow, I guess they already have decisions.

@jerseystudent18 That’s weird, it’s been saying the 14th on mine since last week, and there is another kid in my school that said the same on his. It changed to the 12th today, it’s probably because we live in MA.

Does anyone know roughly the amount of people who get accepted after they have put on to the wait list? I’ve heard mixed reviews from other schools about the wait list just being a polite way to say no to ED/EA students, but I’m not sure about Emerson.

@treillyiv95 Nah, mine just got changed to the 12th too and I’m in New Jersey. Craziness.

@gct692 do you mean EA only or altogether? I think by April when all acceptances have happened, they take in about 3,000+ students, but only around 900 enroll. That’s what I’ve read on various sites. As for wait listing, I guess they add everyone after that initial 3k to the wait list? They supposedly don’t take more than like 20 kids from the wait list each year. :S

Hey everyone, just joined. I’m a parent (and alum) and my daughter applied for film production. We’re in Massachusetts and know the film program pretty well as two of my kids have done quite a lot of acting in student films. My daughter’s stats are ACT 31, writing 10, GPA 3.3. Her high school is pretty competitive though but she doesn’t have any honors classes. High school has not been the greatest experience and so hopefully her ACT scores will help give a boost to the academics. All fingers crossed and good luck to everyone here!

Letting y’all know–my D just got a call from Emerson (she applied EA for the BFA musical theater). They let her know that she’s accepted, but not for the BFA --she is, however, accepted for the BA in Acting. So… they’re starting to make those decisions… AND–any input on BA vs. BFA at Emerson would be welcome!

@wondertime Congratulations for you and your daughter, that is awesome! If we didn’t get a call, does this mean we aren’t in? Or will they let some people just know online?

@wondertime…Congratulations, how wonderful and to get a personal phone call!
I am trying to figure out how to pass my time the next couple of days besides eating brie cheese and crackers. It’s too cold to go out and snow is expected in the AM. I am waiting for the EA decision for my daughter to Emerson this Thursday and Chapman within the week (her top two choices) and a few other schools. Besides that I have her twin sister who has applied ED to NYU and those decisions start coming out “pre-dawn” on Fri., so needless to say, the stress level in this household is pretty pretty high! Good luck to all of you and may you or your children achieve their dream schools! The NYU ED CC thread is pretty intense, so it is nice to read this one!

@happybanana: I would assume that wondertime is the exception because of the switch in majors. Admissions will be posted online Dec. 12 at 3PM EST. This information can be found on the student portal log in page.
