Emerson College- Early Action Class of 2020

I figured that since the deadline for early action recently closed it was time to make this discussion. This is a place for applicants who applied early action this year to come discuss and wait for our decision letters. We can share stats, talk about chances, ask questions, post the news about our decision when the time comes and just chat with people who might be going to the same school with us if everything works out.

I think my recommendation is amazing.
My essays are excellent.

I am also applying for the Honors Program.

Female/Caucasian
One of the best public high schools in central Massachusetts
Top 10% of my class
Need for Federal Aid
Lived in Massachusetts my entire life
I transferred schools beginning Junior year (to a harder high school)
I don’t know if this matters, but I took the tour and got in contact with one of the counselors. I’ve been very invested in the school through social media and the like.
GPA: 4.16 (weighted) 4.0 (unweighted)
SAT: 1770 (I’m really bad at test taking) 610 (writing) 590 (Critical Reading) 570 (Math)
Major: Journalism

Classes:
I’ve taken almost all honors classes throughout my years of high school, which contributes to my high weighted GPA. I’ve only taken AP Literature and Composition, however I do currently take an Independent Study focused on Journalism with my AP Lit teacher.

Extra Curricular:
-Yearbook (Freshman)
-National Honor Society (Junior and Senior)
-Family Community Leaders (Senior)
-Cultural Enrichment Club (Senior)
-Journalist for the School Newspaper (Senior)
-I’ve played piano consistently for 6 years
-Friends of Rachel Club (Freshman and Sophomore, I was in charge with one of the big anti-bullying projects done at the school through this)
-Employee at an ice cream place and family adventure farm
-Softball (Sophomore, JV team)

I have three recommendations not including my guidance counselor. Two from teachers who I believe wrote great things about me, and one from a previous employer who I think will write good things about me as well.

I think my essays are top notch and I spent a ton of time thinking about, writing, and reviewing them. They all focus on my love for and dedication to writing.

I did not apply for the honors program because my SAT scores were too low.

Good luck to everyone who applied!!!

Applying for WLP
White/Female
From New Jersey
Attending preppy boarding high school

Current GPA: ~3.4 UW, 3.87 W (my school grades on a weird scale so that’s an estimate).
SAT superscored: 2130 out of 2400, 1400 out of 1600 (750 CR, 650 M, 730 W)
Recs: 2 teachers and a counselor who like me a lot as a student.
Essays: I love writing and I’m pretty good at it so they should be good.

Honors Classes (year taken):
Honors Biology (9)
Honors English (10)
Spanish 4 Honors (11)
2D Art Portfolio (12) (honors-level art elective)
Epidemiology/Public Health (12) (honors-level science elective)

AP Classes (year taken):
AP Lit & Comp (11) - 4 on exam
AP Lang & Comp (12)
AP US History (11) - 3 on exam
AP Comparative Government (12)

Extracurriculars:
-Quiz bowl team (captain 2 years, went to national competitions all the years I’ve been in it. Wrote my CA essay about going to last year’s History Bowl nationals tourney in DC.)
-Drama (never been a lead but I’m always a consistent actor in the school/community theatre)
-Creative Writing (I plan to study English and I think my writing talent came out in my essays. I also write for my school’s online magazine and I’ve entered stories in writing competitions all over the country. Went to a pre-college creative writing workshop at Ithaca College last summer.)
-Paid work experience (summer job at hair salon)

I mention a few others in my application (ski team, Christian Fellowship, book club, social justice clubs) but the above are the big ones I highlighted. Also, I go to boarding school and had adjustment issues freshman year so my grades that year weren’t great (B- average) but I’ve shown a lot of upward trajectory (my first senior grades were an A- average.) That’s made clear by my transcript, would that negatively affect me?

Good luck everyone!

Does anyone know if we find out on the 15th or by the 15th?

So ACTUALLY I emailed them today and we’re going to find out on/ around the 17th. they needed a little more time to review the applications. ugh.

@zebily that’s ridiculous, I thought you had to know by the 15th. I’ve heard things all over the map-- at one point it was the 11th, then the 15th.

yeah, well that’s what they said in my email today D:

haha, yeah. i’m just even more anxious now.

The 17th?! I don’t know if I can wait that long! Ahhh!

Yeah, I’m low key going crazy. They can’t make me wait this long especially with every other person getting into college.

Can anyone else not get into their portal right now!?

Never mind it is back up now and nothing changed

There’s a ‘view admissions decision’ button, but nothing’s behind it, so that’s frustrating.

the suspense is killing me.

does anyone know like a timeframe to check the portal tomorrow?

I heard 6pm somewhere? I’m taking that with a grain of salt though.

@bigschnoz123 , According to @zebily the decisions wont be released until the 17th.

Yeah Apparently it’s going to be released on the 17th, but I originally heard it was tomorrow at 2:45 pm so I’ll still be checking then. But we should all be getting emails about it.

I called admissions & was told we wouldn’t hear back until later this week.
