Emerson College or Syracuse University?

I was recently accepted into both Emerson College and Syracuse University, with majors in both for print journalism (magazine specialization at SU). I'm wondering which college I should attend, not just based on my major, but on the campus experience as well; I'm looking for the best possible college experience. I understand that both are good schools...so I'm just wondering, in the end, which one is better?

Thanks for all the help!

Congratulations on getting accepted. I heard that Syracuse is a wonderful campus, but it might not be your type of school… While Emerson College isn’t as prestigious as a school, its academics are fine. But, if you want a more recognized school, pick Syracuse.

For help, you can visit the Campus Vibe section of CC. I can’t tell you which feels like a better college environment because I haven’t visited them. I also suggest visiting both campuses to get a feel for them.

Syracuse has an amazing, amazing magazine journalism program bankrolled by a lot of the publishers in NYC. Lots of mags in NYC and LA are full of SI Newhouse grads, and resumes with “Syracuse” on them go straight to the top of the piles.

Don’t know a whole lot about Emerson, though.

Isn’t Emerson just a building with no campus?(i may be wrong in my perception)
I think Syracuse is the better choice. I say this because at 18/17 you may know what you want to do now, but it might change later. Syracuse, on top of offering a top program in your interest, will offer other options should your interests change.

I got accepted to Syracuse too but as an English major. From what I’ve read its a big school. Around 15000 students… Maybe I’ll see you there.

Emerson’s emphasis is communication, broadly defined - big emphases on performing arts as well. From what I’ve heard, Syracuse - along with Northwestern and Missouri - are at the top in terms of journalism. The alumni connections there could be a crucial asset.

Syracuse is by far the bigger school: approximately 12,000 undergrads and about 19,000 if grad students are included. Syracuse has a traditional college campus, distinct from the surrounding city neighborhoods, that overlooks the downtown area. Emerson is part of the city of Boston, spread out along Boylston Street near the Common and Public Garden. I agree with gadad’s characterization of the differences in focus of the two communications programs. I think for what you are looking to study Syracuse has the upper hand. Of course, Boston as a city has it all over Syracuse hands down.
