My D is looking for colleges with a great creative writing program on top of a prestigious liberal arts structure. From what I understand Emerson College has both of these things.
I don't know much about this school though, all I really know is that it has a good creative writing program and the acceptance rate is quite low(35 percent). Does anyone know anything about Emerson, how good of a school is it? With an acceptance rate like 35 percent, what may they be looking for? What other selective schools similar to Emerson should my D look at?

My sister went to Emerson. The student body tends to be very artsy, liberal, creative. She enjoyed her years there but, in retrospect, thought it was a little too “out there” for her - lots of piercings, unusual hair colors, etc. What sort of environment is your daughter looking for and what are her stats?

My D has a 1950 on SATs and two 650’s on SAT 2’s. She is a member of the school newspaper and has produced numerous school films. Her gpa is 3.5. I did some research on the college though, and it seems as if it has gotten more and more competitive in recent years. What do you think about her chances? How did your sister feel about the academics?

My brother graduated from there. It’s in a really interesting area of Boston, but it doesn’t have any distinct campus…the college is composed of various buildings that blend in with the neighborhood. Lots of fairly famous people have gone there (Henry Winkler, Jay Leno, Denis Leary, Norman Lear, etc.). It also has a facility in Los Angeles now.

Seems like people who apply there also often apply to Boston University, Ithaca, NYU, and Syracuse.

I’d agree with LilyMoon about the school having more than its share of students who are trying extra hard to be noticed via piercings, etc.

I think her chances are good. My sister felt the academics were ok, she majored in advertising. Where else are you considering? Does she only want to be in the Northeast?

She is looking at NYU and Northwestern, but I at his point Emerson is her top choice. I do not know a lot about the school, but she insists that it is very well respected school for the fields that it offers, I don’t know much about it but she seems to think that it is a great school, and with an acceptance rate in the 30’s, fairly prestigious. Do you have any other input?
