My son found Emerson off-putting at our tour. Couldn’t really put his finger on it, and since he has two good friends who go there, I thought he’d really like it. We walked out after the tour and he just said Nope! Funny . . . everyone has there own feel for things.

Agree with many who weren’t thrilled after the Emerson experience. D was very excited about Emerson until the audition experience. Like others have said “off-putting” to say the least, for her. So the no for today was no biggie. It does help that other acceptances have come in the meantime.

It really must be a fit thing! It’s in the top two for my daughter. She liked it after a visit and loved it after her audition. Other kids she knows got into Purchase and Rutgers but got a no from here. It’s all a crap shot really. I wish I knew how many they wait-list for the acting BFA. I know it’s 800 for the whole college.
Congrats to all the acceptances today!

Well-put, ClaresMom. Fit is impossible to define - and it’s foolish to take anyone’s opinion personally, either of a school, or of a student’s ability, either (clearly!).

I hope the waitlist experience for you is quick and painless - or that she gets her other acceptance and doesn’t have to sweat this one.

ClaresMom - I hope she gets into the other program AND into Emerson!!! I am the eternal optimist… :)

Thanks!! It helps to be able to laugh! I’ll try to be just as optimistic :)

Anyone else get in? The only two I can find are Touchstone1’s son (also got in to SUNY Purchase and Fordham for BA) and GeekGirlGo - congratulations!! But I’d love to see the other acceptances posted!

I emailed to try to get an idea of how much hope to hold on to and this is what they said:

800 on the waitlist - about half will choose to remain on it, no information on individual majors and waitlist. If they do move to the waitlist then they look at who might fill the gaps there are in the class with the Performing Arts department.

I presume that means they will look to fill by type and gender if they need to fill the class.

Congratulations to those admitted to Emerson! My son was not admitted. He had already been accepted to a school he prefers to Emerson, so it’s OK.

Contrary to some audition stories, though, he was very impressed with Emerson based on what he experienced at the audition. He said, “They were SO NICE.” Emerson was also the only school to send him an e-mail thanking him for auditioning.

Got in for BFA Acting and in the Honors program. Not sure if I wanna go here (I still don’t have decisions from my top choices) but the Honors and the half tuition really push it in the top for me.

Good luck to everyone else!

momotoki, congratulations!!! This was exactly what my daughter was hoping for, but she was not admitted… she heard yesterday. She was admitted to CalArts and is VERY excited for that opportunity. Let us know what you decide, the 1/2 tuition is such a great deal.

Congrats, momotoki! That’s a great opportunity!

Hello! Congrats to everyone that was accepted. I was accepted to Emerson for a BFA in acting. Emerson was my most positive audition experience because after I had done my monologue, I was complimented with kind words.
Please don’t let these rejections define you! It’s a crazy, competitive process and being rejected does not mean you’re a bad actor.

ActingForFilmMom that’s amazing and I think CalArts is harder to get in than Emerson. I would have killed to get in there. Goes to show that these admissions are governed by some evil higher power and make no sense at all.

Evil higher power…love that!!!

I don’t think it’s possible to assess which schools are “harder to get in.” They’re looking for different things. As discussed elsewhere on this forum (or the MT one), all the students in the most notoriously selective programs reported they had received rejections elsewhere.

My D received a “Congratulations!” envelope from Emerson. The letter went on to tell her she was not accepted to the BFA Acting program but into their Communications Marketing program. Then they offered her the $14,000 Dean’s Scholarship and a $9000 Emerson Grant. A couple of student loans and work study and tuition is covered. She has a 3.6 gpa unweighted with numerous AP classes and 1910 SAT. I doubt she’ll attend. She doesn’t have a clue as to what communications marketing is. So, Emerson does have money to give, but I conclude its part of a consolation prize for kids who don’t make it into their first choice.

Congratulations to your daughter jkc and to others on here. My D was accepted early action to Emerson. She was offered 20,000 in grant money but no scholarship and she did not get into the Honors program. She was happy to get in but knew the honors would be the deciding factor. She is an IB student w/11 AP/IB classes…all As. She has a 4.2 unweighted GPA and an 1890 on the SAT (the standardized tests get her every time!!). I just wish Emerson could have seen past her SAT scores. Sigh…

Actress17 – I like your positive attitude. Congratulations! My D also got accepted to BFA-Acting at Emerson & had a really good audition experience.

Wow, hearing these numbers makes me wonder and realize that what everyone says is so true - “you can’t let your rejections define who you are or your future”. Emerson had been at the top of my d’s list since we visited last summer. Instead of taking just the one tour, we went back the next day for another. Our guide was a Communications Marketing Major (my husband is a Chief Marketing Officer and my d never really new what that meant until she listen to this tour guide), so suddenly she was saying “if I don’t get into BFA acting, then I think I would be happy at this school going into marketing, especially entertainment marketing, I love their facilities”. So she put Communications Marketing as a second choice… she has 3.795 GPA (4 years of AP classes), 1890 on SAT and 28 on ACT, did the Honors Essay… Not only did she not get accepted into the BFA program, but she didn’t get accepted into the Communications major either! She was crushed. Until the other acceptances started coming in!
