What do you guys think ???

Isn’t Emerson a significantly better college than Suffolk? Like, a lot? Emerson’s average SAT scores are 100-150 points higher on the SAT per section than Suffolk’s. They’re both regional universities, according to USNWR, not ones with national reputation, but Emerson is 14 in the region and Suffolk is 60, which is, I think, a very significant drop.

That was about all I knew from the top-ish of my head, and then I dug through their CollegeBoard profiles some more (here and here. Emerson has a 90% freshman retention rate, which is pretty good. Suffolk’s isn’t terrible, at 75%, but it’s less. Emerson’s quite a bit more selective, taking 50% rather than 80% of applicants. Emerson’s list price is about $3k a year more expensive, although neither is cheap ($29k and $32k, respectively). I don’t know which has better financial aid. They have about equal student/faculty ratios. If I were you I would poke around and do some more research, but so far Emerson seems to be winning hands down.

Hard to compare these two schools. Apart from the disparities noted in the above post, Emerson specializes in arts and communications (with a hipster vibe to its student body), while Suffolk seems to have a more general curriculum. The only common denominator is Boston. What are your interests/intended major?

Suffolk

My oldest daughter went to Emerson several years ago and had many friends who attended Suffolk as the two schools are almost right next to each other. MommaJ is right, two totally different vibes, plus Emerson is quite small while Suffolk is largish. The one downside to Emerson that my D found was that since it is a very specialized school, you don’t really take core classes, which sounds great at first. But if you were to transfer to another school, you practically have to start over again. D loved the personalized attention she received at Emerson (she was a print journalism major) and was very close to all her professors.

Why Suffolk?
