I've been accepted by Syracuse VPA and SVA Film, and I've been place on wait list by Emerson.

Personally speaking, I prefer Syracuse VPA because I want to transfer into Newhouse, maybe a SU VPA student could make it easier. I'm also expecting Emerson's final decision, because I love Boston.

Any body know the differences(strength/weakness) between Emerson, Syracuse and SVA?

My son applied to all three and will be going to Syracuse. He was also waitlisted by Emerson, and from everything we have heard, going from waitlisted to accepted is very unusual so he is not counting on that (although he did agree to be placed on the waitlist). He doesn’t feel that SVA has a film program that can measure up. It is known for other areas of art (animation, graphic design, photography) but not film. Syracuse has a prestigious program that is globally recognized.

@MicZha, if you’re into cinematography, SVA is great. Hands-on experience from the first month of school. Editing is also a pretty good department. Everything else is… kind of meh. Especially writing.

I finished my second year at SVA last week, writing concentration, and I’m transferring out-- it’s not for writing AT ALL. But like I said, if you’re looking into cinematography, the equipment is mostly good, you can take it out from basically the second week of school, and there are avid and final cut labs to edit on.
