Emerson

How difficult is it to get in?
I haven't taken the SAT or ACT yet, but i got a 1900 on my PSAT,
Also planning to take SAT II for lit.
My grades aren't that good. since freshman year have varied between 3.7-3.2
I want to go into communications(journalism), and have good e.c's.
Also, my cousin graduated there and she's kinda prestegious(novels published/works for National Geographic Traveler)

So... would i stand a chance of getting in?

A good friend of mine applied there ED but got deferred...I think she had the same qualifications as u did...but i'm not sure...here we do GPA by number so i dont know what an 83 average (her GPA) calculates on the scale. She wants to do the same thing u r doing. She had 600's in the math, verbal sections of the SAT and she is an avid member of our theathre group.

I wouldnt worry tho...the adcom dont look at ppl the same way...Keep your head up and try not to worry! ;) (wish i could say the same for myself)

I think you'd definitely "stand a chance"...you're right in the middle of their applicant pool as far as GPA/SAT (at least judging by your PSAT) stats go.

If you want to go into journalism it's a good place--my friend's brother is in the journalism program and he says it's great. A couple of my friends go there as well and they all love it...so good luck!

hah, thanks so much, ya'll.
This school is like, 1 of 50 million that i'm interested in.
I would really, really like to stay in Chicago, but i wouldn't get into Northwestern or U of C,
and my brother goes to Loyola and i really don't like it...
DePaul is still a choice, but more of a fallback safety choice..

::sigh:: college....

Unless this is a rude question, why do you want to stay in Chicago?

oh, don't worry. not rude at all.

eerm.. well, for a while i was really into NYU, but then i finally went to New York and... i don't know. the biggest and best city in America just seemed kind of 'eh' compared to Chicago.
And i know it's not, it's really wonderful.
I just really, really, really, really love Chicago. It has so much going for it- the architecture, the theatre, the art, the music...just the everything.
I don't know. it's me being probably shallow, but it works for me.
I just know i can't be on a campus in the middle of nowhere... like, i need a city. I'm actually in Chicago suburbs right now, and i can't stand it. It's like being in a snowglobe. and i know it sounds really pretentious, but that's why i'm looking at Emerson instead of like, U of I or Iowa or other colleges that are sort of near Chicago.

...wow, probably a lot longer of a description than you wanted. sorry.

Haha, not at all. I'm actually in the same boat (with the NYU/New York thing, and the wanting a city thing) except that I'm already in Boston. If it's more about having a city around than anything, I'd say give Boston a chance--we're pretty cool. (Definitely cooler than New York, as any self-respecting Bostonian will tell you, haha.)

My friend Elise, who used to live in Chicago, says that Boston's pretty much like it except with worse food. If you can live without Greektown you'll be fine here, I guess...?
