Did anyone here apply, get accepted, or already attend? I've applied, and I don't know much about the school, but it looks like I'll end up at Emmanuel next year if I get a full-tuition scholarship, which according to their website, I should qualify for. I was just wondering what someone who attends or has visited could tell me about the school, I've scoured the internet and can't find anything from a student's perspective!

It's a commuter school where we send the lower 10% of kids from our school. I wouldn't recommend it.

I visited Emmanuel this past June, and wasn't all that impressed. I really wanted to go to a school in Boston and I was carried away by their spectacular brochure, which let me say was definitely deceiving. Its interior reminded me too much of my own high school, and I didn't like the small size of the school, or, on a side note, the dorms. Then again, with the college being in Boston, there are so many places where you could go and meet new people (especially from the nearby colleges), so in this case the size isn't necessarily a problem.

Don’t see the validity of the “commuter school” comment.

According to the College Board (see page 12):

i got accepted there but i’m not going…the location is AWESOME but the campus is so tiny, there’s only about 3-4 academic buildings. but it’s right in the middle of boston, on the same street as simmons, and down the road from BU and northeastern

Does anyone know about how challening the academics at Emmanuel College are?

I guess I’ll have to be the dissident on this thread! I am definitely pro-Emmanuel.My son is there admittedly because his grades tanked Junior year and his top picks became way out of reach. He’s a smart kid that has (thankfully) matured and yes, the classes are easy for him. However, his professors are engaged and engaging and have managed to spark a keen interest in learning. Yes, the campus is tiny, but when you consider the neighborhood as your campus (Emmanuel is part of the Fenway consortium) then you begin to see the opportunities there. The campus community is very friendly and very diverse. The dorms are, in my opinion pretty nice. We visited Williams, Middlebury, Northeastern, and more when we thought there was a glimpse of hope and Emmanuel dorms measure up nicely. Our wayward some received a very generous $ package (has some weighty ECs) and now that he’s decided to apply himself, I think there will be more next year. Just my .02. Good luck!

Hey, I know nobody goes on the state forums, but I figured I’d post and hope for a little more activity haha.

So I got accepted EA! They gave me about $14,000 in scholarships already (I kinda thought they would though, because I’m way above their average stats–definately a safety for me)! I wasn’t even going to apply but they waived the app fee and there was no supplement essay so… here I am!

I’m definately getting mixed “reviews” and verdicts, not only online… I know two people who go there and one hates it and the other loves it. Anyone else have any pros/cons about Emmanuel?! Anyone else, like me, get accepted?

Could you tell us what the students you know there like about it and what they don’t like about it? Thanks.

I think Emmanuel has a lot of upside potential. They now have the facilities and funding stability due to the Merck deal.

And they have a great location that will give it an advantage over many other New England schools in its tier, IMO. But it seems the school is growing fast, hiring new staff, starting new academic programs, adding varsity sports, etc. It just may take a while before its reputation can build up and the academic profile of the incoming classes moves up. I don’t ever see it equaling BC or Holy Cross, but it could someday be a solid Boston back up for those schools.

Opportunities like their [Science Living-Learning Community](http://www.emmanuel.edu/Accepted_Students/Science_Living-Learning_Community.html) can really help raise the school, offering opportunities for close faculty contact that would be difficult to access at large research schools like BU or Northeastern.

Emmanuel is quite a solid Boston school in general. Although their incoming academic student profiles haven’t been of the highest standards in the past they are improving. Don’t let its size fool you though, it’s a great school both location and education wise.

My son is a freshman at Emmanuel. He is having a great experience. The students are friendly, the academics are solid and it is in an amazing location. They gave him a partial tuition scholarship so it ended up being only slightly more than our NJ state colleges.

My friend goes to Emmanuel and really likes it. Academics are challenging, opportunities are profound, and study body is decent. Plus, for a Boston school the cost is reasonable.
