Does anyone know what time RD letters will be posted on April 1st?

melanie: so it’s safe to assume that URMs that didn’t receive a notification by now have been rejected? wow. not cool emory.

I would say that’s a pretty good rule of thumb. Idk why they don’t just let everybody know regardless of rejection or acceptance but hey I’m not an admissions officer =/

D is white (well, more of a pinky-beige). Sounds like she has to wait til April 1.

Good luck everyone.

We have a whole more week guys. That’s way too long. Has anyone found posted stats for this year’s applicant pool, or accepted URM stats, or anything?

Well, I’m still going to keep my hopes up. Even though I’m a URM, I never recieved the email stating: “Tomorrow night, the decisions for our minority applicants will be available online!”

So I would have never known about this if it wasn’t for CC…

ahh being white makes this process quite difficult and arbitrary… would those accepted atleast be as kind to post stats to that the rest of us who aren’t URM’s can have something tangible to consider.

thanks

Hey pacer31, I’ll post my stats in a sec

Sorry for typos and incomplete sentences :p

Rank: 25/332

Essays: Main one was really good about an experience I had the summer before freshman year. Included stuff about how I dance ballet, my family in Colombia, etc.
“Why Emory” was awesome, I really did my research, found a lot of stuff that made the school special and perfect for me.

ECs: Internship at a research institute where I did cancer research summer before junior year, I currently work there now with a very well known researcher from Stanford. I did Junior State of America, NHS, Spanish Honor Society (secretary) , Math honor society, chess club (secretary), I have been in a small school-based dance group, I have worked with various well-known choreographers from Ailey and other good dance companies, I dance after school 8-10 hours a week. I worked at a dental office for a while. Did science fair. 300+ hours community service + one big project I did this year.

Other Factors: I visited and know people there (we were able to include this in the supplement)
General Comments: I love Emory! It is one of my first choices and now I am just waiting for financial aid.

I am thrilled that I am accepted at Emory and that I was able to find out so early, but Emory made a mistake in saying that I was an URM because I’m actually just your average white guy. My Dad was born in Argentina and his mother’s family had lived there for several generations but her family was pure European descent, so I Emory just made a false assumption based on parent birthplace. I told them that I probably won’t go to the event since I don’t really belong there but they still really want me to go anyways. I guess I was just lucky that I was able to find out two weeks early!

OPUS has not revealed financial aid though, but I have not received the formal letter yet so it may have my financial information.

If you need stats I am heavily involved in many activities at my school, have numerous awards, have been to several science & leadership conferences, 4.1 weighted gpa, 3.8 unweighted gpa, 1970 SATs, 700’s on Math 1 and Bio M SAT 2s, 3 years of employment, 3 season athlete (not playing in college though), great essays, and great reccs among other qualities.

if i was born in south america and have lived here my entire life, but i am also a us citizen because of my father. am i considered a urm?
because if i am, i am really worried i never got a letter before meaning i might be rejected?
i love emory this makes me really sad…

nutella, i didn’t get any email either, it must have gotten lost in cyberspace. Just log into OPUS

yeaah i did, but it says that an admissions decision is not available yet. i got an email that i will get one april 1st.
are you accepted scientistdancer?

@beatStopper

I have a few friends with similar situations. They’re Jewish yet have a single Hispanic parent and get to put down Hispanic on their application but they’re Caucasian. Helped one, didn’t help the other… lucky guy… Haha looking back I wish I had put other on the app… ambiguity for the win

thanks for posting your stats, keep it up :)

Yes I was accepted

Question- do you guys know if legacy is brought into the equation for RD applicants? My parents both went/donate to the school so I’m curious. I know that with other institutions it varies, and I have never heard anything about Emory’s policy.

According to Emory’s Common Data Set, alumni relations are “considered” – not a strong factor, but a factor. By way of comparison, Level of interest (i.e., campus visits, communicating with admissions reps, etc.) is listed as “important.” Link:

@pacer… Ambiguity worked in my favor I suppose because I left the entire ethnicity thing blank because I wasn’t sure what would be the best thing to list myself as. But my name is very Italian (foreign sounding) and I listed my Dad’s birthplace so I guess they just tried to fill in the blanks.

Is anyone attending Essence of Emory?

I’m attending essence of emory :))
