Strengths:
Weaknesses:
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected:
Accepted: UVA, UWash, UofMaryHardin-Baylor, Arizona State University, UofAZ, UofUtah, Dixie State
Waitlisted: Vanderbilt
Rejected: Brown, Yale, UPenn, Dartmouth, Northwestern, Rice, Tufts, Stanford, USC

accepted to emory (didn’t apply to oxford)
Objective:
SAT I (breakdown): N/A
ACT (breakdown):
Composite: 33
Reading: 35
English: 36
Math: 30
Science: 30
SAT II: N/A
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.975
Weighted GPA: 4.0
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 51/400 ish?
AP (place score in parenthesis): no AP test scores reported
IB (place score in parenthesis): N/A
Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): I had a bunch of stuff in my application about awards i had won in speech and debate mostly as well as a couple outside organizations

Subjective:
Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): speech and debate (captain of PF debate and captain of speech for 2 years), mock trial, political action club (president), orchestra (first chair viola), advanced acting, and NHS
Job/Work Experience: I worked in fast food for 2 years, was a private nanny for about 4 months, and worked at a daycare for 5. most of these overlapped with one another so basically i just had a consistent work record over 2.5 years in a couple different jobs.
Volunteer/Community service: i organized a couple projects through NHS but most of my volunteer work was through debate
Essays (rating 1-10, details): I applied through questbridge so my essay prompts may have been a little different. I would personally rank my main essay like a 6 or 7 because it was really poignant and heartfelt and i talked about my hardest experience and how it shaped me but i also know that the writing was only semi-strong, i didnt use a lot of figurative language or anything. i wanted it to be very straightforward and to highlight my writing voice so there was no fluff or anything which may have made the essay weaker but it got across the point better.
Recommendations (rating 1-10, details): I waived my right to read recommendations

Other:
Applied for Financial Aid?: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA almost 70k a year? you bet your ass i applied for financial aid
Intended Major: psych
State (if domestic applicant): Idaho
Country (if international applicant):
School Type: public as public can be
Ethnicity: white
Gender: female
Income Bracket: between 50k-70k for a family of 5
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): i was a questbridge finalist so i think my application stood out due to my financial status but nothing other than that

Reflections: i legit didn’t even remember applying to emory until i got my acceptance letter so that tells you how much work i put into my application here, although i spent a long time on my questbridge app and thats what i submitted. i didn’t know much about this school until i did more research after i got in but i really love it and i’m attending in the fall!
Strengths: my application was really personal to me. i talked about a lot of things that were really hard for me to talk about that i hadn’t in the past and i think that made it stand out since i have a pretty unique home situation.
Weaknesses: my grades are definitely not superb and they were probably one of the weaker points of my application. plus my essays weren’t as good as they probably should have been.
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected:
rejected from brown
waitlisted at whitman, washington and lee, and hamilton
accepted at nau, msu, u of i, bsu, cwi, c of i, and u of u

@eilishhayden " i didnt use a lot of figurative language or anything. i wanted it to be very straightforward and to highlight my writing voice so there was no fluff or anything which may have made the essay weaker but it got across the point better."

In no one does avoiding sounding pompous and being straight-forward weaken an essay. An essay will be best if it has clarity and gets the point across no matter which method you use. There is no need to conform to almost annoying stereotypes when constructing college essays. If anything, readers may get bored if it follows that formula. Keep this in mind when you do college writing.

"Weaknesses: my grades are definitely not superb and they were probably one of the weaker points of my "
after posting:
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.975
Weighted GPA: 4.0

Is this a really annoying humble brag?

Either way, congratulations! I am sure Emory will be glad to have you. If that is not a humble brag, please pat yourself on the back and do not be so hard on yourself.

Thank you for the advice! i was definitely not trying to brag, i took quite a few AP classes so having a 4.0 weighted is pretty bad (meaning i got quite a few b’s throughout high school as well as one c), especially compared to most of the other applicants. i apologize if it came across in a braggy way, my class rank was pretty low so my gpa is definitely the weakest part of my application out of a 5.0 rank (weighted).

@eilishhayden : Honestly, having some non-A grades may help you at a top tier college like Emory (it may be a part of the whole resilience thing that some admissions offices may take into account. I would suspect Emory does). You will know what it feels like to work hard or have to fight for a grade and not expect to have everything feel easy for you. Schools (especially top tier) with a lot of those folks, who have yet to be challenged by academics tend to whine and complain a lot. HS “perfection” (which can be manufactured by just choosing courses in comfort areas, getting lots of parental help, etc) can be over-rated in terms of your future development as a student/scholar. Lots of people like that who get to college and get a B grade (or more annoying, find that they must really really fight for an A-/A) tend to blame the instructors because you know “they are too perfect and smart to feel pushed”. While they gripe and moan, you can shrug your shoulders and get the job done. Psychology at Emory is not the easiest whatsoever, so that resilience may really come in handy.
