I think it is very helpful as it is a priority of many colleges right now to admit more first gen students so it gives you a “hook.” You still need the grades and stats but in a sea filled with students with high grades and stats, being first gen definitely helps. Good luck to you!

Will Emory send physical letter?
extremely helpful. All top schools want to expand their First-Gen and URM numbers. It’s a huge factor.

No worries 
eventually they probably will. My kids acceptances so far have come in packets in the mail (with stickers and brochures and such) anywhere from 3 weeks to 2 days after portal acceptances. The accepted student emails to students and parents starts the day after portal updates (for us, so far.)
