Emory College vs. Oxford College?

What is the difference between the two?

I already know that Oxford existed before Emory and that Oxford students transfer over to Emory after two years. I also saw on their admissions page that the acceptance percentage for Oxford was much higher than that of Emory.

Aside from what Emory University's Admissions page tells us, what is the difference between the two? Like, in terms of academics, jobs, and campus life?

I honestly don't know how to phrase this without offending anyone, so correct me if im wrong , but do Emory students look down upon Oxford students because they are more easily accepted?

Thank you!

@yeveat - There is no offense. Some Emory students look down on people who go to non-selective state schools, not just Oxford students (let’s be honest, many are extremely wealth and lived in socioeconomic bubbles of some sort. Of course unwarranted elitist attitudes about things like college selection will develop among a few of them. However, I must say it’s not as much as you would expect for a selective private school). And in addition, who cares if they do? Many of the Oxford students will likely end up having stronger first and second year academic experiences than those on main campus (Oxford kind of forces a stronger experience, whereas main campus makes it a choice and many will intentionally or unintentionally choose not to have such experiences). AIG should tell you more though since he went there. He can explain the differences in a way that doesn’t drip with the same cynicism of the main campus experience like my explanation does.

Oxford students continue to the Atlanta campus from Oxford; they do not transfer. Oxford also did not “exist before Emory.” Emory College was located at Oxford until the university founded the Atlanta campus. Eventually, Emory College moved to the Atlanta campus and Oxford College was formed. Oxford is a division of Emory University.

One reason that Oxford’s acceptance rate is higher is that a lot of student apply rather indiscriminately to the top 20 schools. I think that campus life at Oxford is far better than at Emory College. Classes are smaller at Oxford (the average class size is about the same between the schools, but that’s misleading. Almost all the classes at Oxford are like 20 people, whereas the Atlanta campus will have much larger intro classes and then 4-person “history of lampshades” senior seminars.) The Atlanta campus is focused on research, while Oxford is focused on teaching. You won’t get grad students teaching classes at Oxford, while you do at the Atlanta campus.

You also take fewer classes at Oxford than the Atlanta campus; the classes at Oxford are worth more credit hours and are more time-consuming.
