I would say you have a decently strong shot ED. Good test scores and pretty devoted ECs.Your GPA is a bit low but it’s in the average range so you should be fine… Haha your app actually reminds me of myself. I’m a Korean applicant who happens to also be extremely involved in my local church… Except that I can’t speak Korean very well, I suck at archery, and I can’t play the sax or electric guitar

Make sure your Emory Supplement is a home run and I think you are quite the strong candidate.

They basically have a 3.85 (because A is 3.8)…that puts them near the median admit I think.

I think you have a decent chance.

Before you apply ED, make sure that Emory is your #1 choice and that you’d be happy there regardless of any other acceptances you received.

(it’s the same advice regardless of the school)

Thanks for the help! I was also wondering my chances for both the oxford campus as well? I heard it prepares you extrememyl well for junior and senior year, and regardless of the situation, I know that I would enter emory college as a junior. However, is it worth it? and are my stats good enough? I belive that If I did ED at oxford I would surely get in–but another side of my self says that I am aiming too low–in reputation of course. Academically Im in no position to say such a thing–Ive heard good things about both colleges!

excuse the spelling and grammer mistakes, Im currently writing this rapidly in my ap gov class during school

@jooshyjosh Why are you worried about the reputation so much? I know many top 20’s (yes above Emory, though barely so in reputation and maybe not at all), that for example, have crappy science curricula in comparison to both main campus and Oxford. Hell, many of Oxford’s science courses are actually taught better than main campus (and are in many cases more rigorous, especially math and physics) yet of course main has a much better reputation and MORE courses…as do many research universities have bigger reputations than LACs (some very top and some not as much) that likely educate better.

In addition, this is not limited to science curricula. I have many friends who have, for example, shown me their materials for political science and other courses and they are simply much better than what you would get out of the large lectures on main or at another research U (not to say that you don’t have access to smaller classes in these depts in the first two years on main, but most people just don’t know that they can and how to or are scared out of it-mainly because that is the culture at a research U).

I will say that Emory of course has more money than Oxford which means that, if it wants, experiment more with different educational options (like easy creation of departments or majors or curriculum overhauls like the one that may happen in chemistry). And indeed, it experiments more than many schools in its ranking (15-25 I guess. I would say Emory and WashU are similar in this respect, but Emory seems more aggressive lately) or endowment bracket. However, arguably, Oxford for the most part is ahead of the curve and can be so because of its size. Its size compensates for its monetary allocation which is much smaller than the college. The reason it is so costly to experiment with education at a research university is primarily because of the amount of students and faculty that are effected by changes in various ways (and thus the high chance that the school or dept may even have to “buy” new faculty).

However, I don’t understand why not just do RD both since you are worried about such issues (as indicated by the others you are applying to). This shouldn’t be simply about “getting into something associated with Emory”. Figure out why you are actually interested in Emory and IF you are even interested in what Oxford has to offer, because it offers much more than “preparation” for main (if anything those students, especially the ones who do well, are over-prepared).

I definitely agree. I surely do choose emory over any of the other schools I am applying no matter of the reputation.

However, I have an update to share. I was sadly rejected ED from both emory college and oxford college.

I have been accepted into Vanderbilt, Brandeis, and the University of Michigan

Waitlisted at william and mary, case western, and rejected from notre dame

Waiting for Tufts, UNC, and Duke (today!!!)
