I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that they send the letters to legacies a little bit earlier than everyone else.

Does anyone know more about this, or when exactly they will send them out this year?

I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that they send the letters to legacies a little bit earlier than everyone else.

Well, Oxford sent out an e-mail that decisions would be up by 8:00 am on the twelfth.
Maybe that’s when the decisions for Emory will be up too :)

How did you get the email? I didn’t.

Wait nevermind I just got it.

And it’s on a SATURDAY! Didn’t see that coming.

Doesn’t matter; I probably won’t get in, but I really want to get in also (wth). I took 16 AP/IB classes and 9 Honors classes in high school (they let us take college classes starting freshman year). GPA isn’t that great for Emory 'cause I overloaded myself with rigorous-as-hell classes (I’m an idiot). Should’ve took only like 5-8 and excell beyond the stars.

All I got are strong recommendations (I saw them), very strong essays (my english teacher told me it was one of the best she’s read and that she couldn’t find mistakes, except that I found like 2 mistakes after 6 proofreads), good ECs (I dedicated most of my time to one activity and I excelled with a 2nd place national competition award. The others are just routine club/volunteer blah blah). I hope this’ll override my not-so-great GPA, seriously.

I didn’t apply to Oxford, so I didn’t get any email about decision notification. Think the same would apply to Emory?

I would think so. I realize that Oxford has it’s own system, but it is still a part of Emory so I would guess they have similar timings. I would check the posts from last year to be sure.

I didn’t realize that so many applied to both schools. I applied to Oxford because I’m not sure I’m ready for a big research university just yet- I came from a pretty small school.

does anyone know how many people applied ED to Emory this year? many other schools are releasing the increased number of applicants. i’m wondering if Emory also had a bigger pool…

Check out Johns Hopkins’ ED applicant thread.

Why do they have so many more posts than ours?

<i applied=“” to=“” oxford=“” because=“” i’m=“” not=“” sure=“” ready=“” for=“” a=“” big=“” research=“” university=“” just=“” yet-=“” i=“” came=“” from=“” pretty=“” small=“” school.=“”>
<i applied=“” to=“” oxford=“” because=“” i’m=“” not=“” sure=“” ready=“” for=“” a=“” big=“” research=“” university=“” just=“” yet-=“” i=“” came=“” from=“” pretty=“” small=“” school.=“”>

I come from a very big school and I’m so sick of too many people walking on this campus that if I don’t go to a small college I won’t be happy. And I hate how these idiots over here with <2.0 GPA act so arrogant and stuck-up… I’ve thought that the idiots are the reason I hate here, but after careful consideration it’s actually the overwhelming number of students now that I can find ways to dodge those people. Seriously, the IB program students are a lot more down-to-earth than those people.

“Yo, man, I’m so smart I got 1.5 GPA IN YOUR FACE! Laughs at you and smirks”

You’d think that kind of people are funny but after a while it really gets annoying.

haha, I wish one of Emory’s admission officers had a CC account.

^^

Ahhh, One week left until Oxford Decisions.
I’m so nervous if I’ll even receive a decision from Emory because my ED agreement didn’t send properly "/

It’s a little late to be posting for the first time on this site, but we have a little more than a week to go and I’m getting really nervous. If anyone’s curious, here are my stats:

White male, Pennsylvania
High school: To say my high school is not very competitive would be overstatement of the year. It’s very rural; 53% of graduates to go 4-year colleges, most to state schools. We offer 5 AP classes, and it’s almost impossible to take any before senior year (our scheduling is very limited).
My HS uses a 100 point GPA scale, and I’ve yet to figure out how to accurately transfer this to the 4.0-scale. Anyway, my weighted GPA is 102.9%. and my unweighted is 98.1%.
Class rank 1/184
All Honors Freshman/Sophomore/Junior year, 4 APs senior year (Calc AB, BC, Biology, English Lit) and one college course at a private college
SAT 2230 (800 math, 670 critical reading, 760 writing)
Didn’t take Subject Tests or ACT

National Merit Semifinalist
ECs: National Art Honor Society President
NHS Vice President
4 years Quiz Bowl team
French National Honor Society
French Club
Rotary Club
Chess Club
Model UN
7 years piano lessons
I organized my own fundraiser and raised $1900 for a local charity
I tutor regularly at the district elementary and middle schools (about 100 hours)

I have worked at a restaurant 3 nights a week since the beginning of junior year.

I didn’t do any sports but I lost 75 pounds over my junior year, which I wrote about in my Common App essay.
I know one of my teacher recs was really good, but I’m not sure about the other one because the teacher supposedly wrote it in 2 days >_< …so not sure about that. My counselor’s is probably pretty good.
I’m not applying for Financial Aid because of a full-tuition Army ROTC scholarship (I’ll do ROTC at GA Tech).
Ms. Jean Jordan is kind of a friend of a friend of a friend (my dad is in the college business) but I’m not sure if that will really have an impact.
I also visited campus twice and went to an “Afternoon with Emory” session in DC.
I didn’t apply to Oxford.

I know I have some good stats and some really bad ones (APs, no SATIIs), but most of those are because of the limitations of my school, so I’m really hoping that they will fully take that into account.

Good luck to everyone!

Good luck to all of you. My oldest son was accepted ED to Emory, and loved his four years there. He graduated from Emory in 2007.

No one still knows the exact ED notification date? For the past two years, decisions were up on Saturday 7 am. (in 2007, Dec. 15 and in 2008, Dec. 13) So I’m guessing this year would be Dec. 12.

well, I emailed the emory admissions and also to the admission counselor for my area and both said that there isn’t a specific time but the 15th is the official date.

HI Alex,

Thanks for your message.

You will receive our decision by December 15.

Best of luck!

Anyone else checking OPUS and their email compulsively?
I’m going crazzzzyyyyy.

On OPUS they just added financial aid forms to my to-do list…
One week! Ahhh!

Thank you, flomatix, that is exactly what I wanted to know.

Oh, and thanks for your best wishes, boysx3. I’m glad your son was able to experience such a fantastic school!

And yes, I am going absoultely insane…and to make matters worse, I have been counting down the exact number of seconds 'till Midnight on the 15th. If you want to become as insane as I am, here ya go:

[Countdown to Dec 15, 2009 in Atlanta](<a href=“Time since Dec 15, 2009 started in Atlanta”>Time since Dec 15, 2009 started in Atlanta)

Ahhhh! I have the same countdown on that same website bookmarked, haha.
We’re equally insane.

Saturday’s almost here! ^^

Do you guys think we can receive our decisions by this week?

I wish Emory could see how many times you check OPUS daily… They’d for sure know I’m desperate. Haha

I never got any e-mail from Oxford about them releasing decisions this Saturday.

Should I be worried.
