From what Emory Reps told me, the amount of AP’s, Honors, IB’s you’ve taken relative to what’s offered at your high school is at the top of their list when considering your application. Unless, your GPA was terrible, I don’t see why it could’ve been the most important deciding factor for your admission.

yeah mine has my info on it but earlier there were some errors and it wasn’t letting me view it. it still has outstanding items (the fafsa and stuff that we have to send in in february)

i love you ^^

don’t feel bad, cause I got accepted apparently for some “not-obvious” reason. I got 27 on the ACT, 580 on writing, 610 on reading, 630 math, 580 for Chem and Math II. I thought my why Emory essay was decent but specific, my EC’s are: just sports for an year, band for 2 years, ROTC for 3 years, key club, honors society, kitty hawk society, and that’s about it. But I made it clear they know I had to work a lot, so maybe they really value hard work ethic…just maybe. Anyways, I still feel really blessed! whoo-hoo, and good luck on your application in RD as well!

yea, its sometimes random… but to the people that got deferred/rejected, try to stay positive!

I still haven’t gotten my FA estimated package yet, *sighhhh.
It’s making me anxious.

@jhall, how many outstanding items are we supposed to have? I have three.

I have zero.

<but to=“” the=“” people=“” that=“” got=“” deferred=“” rejected,=“” try=“” stay=“” positive!=“”></but>

Easy for you to say. Many of us had it as our first-choice, and got blown away. I think I’m the only defer/reject here showing his face, and that makes it even worse being surrounded by people with big smiles who got accepted.

However, your advice is good so I’m following it.

i have 3 too madmadiah and I cant get 2009 tax documents until February and FAFSA until Jan.

Only demonstrated interest was applying ED and ordering an Emory DVD. There was no way I could visit cause I’m literally on the opposite corner of the country in Seattle, so I’m sure Emory officials took that into some kind of consideration?

Some interesting things about my academic career:

Really easy private Christian school for 9th and 10th grade. Bad grades freshman year, also suspended for threatening a teacher.

Transferred to public school system and took all my classes at community college, never took a step in the high school I’m registered at. Already have two years of full community college credits under my belt.

If any of the future prospective students are worried about terrible freshman years… DON’T WORRY. I had a really rough freshman year, but I had my chance to explain it and show how much I changed.

I was actually really surprised by my acceptance. I’m sure my essays, counselor rec, and optional teacher recs and SATII’s helped.

thanks totheResQ [I love your screen name!]
Waiting until the packet in the mail arrives now with more info :)!

8000 community service hours-- you’re INSANE!!!

its not as bad as it sounds…we are on duty during school and at night so that counts as hours of service

K this is not cool anymore. You meant 800 hours, right, not 8000?

Hm, just a few questions?

Has anyone gotten their official acceptance letters yet?

Also, we can’t find out about our financial aid package until at least after Jan 1st right because of our FAFSA and 2009 Tax Returns? Or do some people know already?

They’ve posted some FA packages and are still working on the rest.
I already found out mine. It’s not enough :[

I think they mailed the acceptance letters on Monday, and so they should be here soon.

How can they post financial aid packages if it’s physically impossible for anyone to have completed their 09 Tax Returns and FAFSA?

They’re estimated packages.

Estimated based on what you put on your Common App hopefully.
