Does anyone know the numbers? For the class of 2021.
ED1 474/1,493 = 31.7%
RD 5,172/23,694 = 21.8%
This is just Emory College and not Oxford College. Couldn’t find ED2.
@ljberkow : Is that how that works. I thought 1493 (and whatever ED2 is) had to be subtracted from the 23694 and 474 (and whatever E2 was) had to be subtracted from 5172. I do not think it makes much of a difference, but I never knew they were separate figures.
I thought the numbers they reported after RD decisions were just “overall” numbers.
@bernie12 you are correct. RD/ED2 would then be 4,698/22,201 or 21.1%.
The ED2 percentages are much closer to RD than they are to ED1. Anyone applying next year for Class of 2023 would hopefully take that into account. The admissions game is very much a game of strategy.
In the past Emory has always given a separate admissions rate for Emory College and Oxford College. It’s odd that Emory hasn’t done so at this point in time.
The press release that’s forthcoming in the near future might give these details.
Or perhaps intriguingly, Emory might want to present a unified acceptance rate as part of a branding effort to link the two colleges more closely. Oxford College had a lower acceptance rate in ED1 and was likely to have a lower rate in RD as well given the vastly increased numbers of applicants who expressed an interest in applying to both institutions.
Those numbers above are just for Emory and not Oxford. Oxford’s separate numbers are available as well.
@BiffBrown
Oxford has always had a lower ED acceptance rate, that changes after the RD round. You guys just don’t pay close enough attention is all.
The Emory Wheel article doesn’t give a separate admission rate for Oxford College - RD. Presumably the Wheel got their numbers from the Admissions Office and thus it’s somewhat odd that there wasn’t a separate Oxford breakdown.
I haven’t seen an official Emory press release just yet on acceptance rates. Typically, such press releases do give a breakdown.
This year Oxford College had substantially more ED1 applications and admits (223 v. 190) than the previous year.

It’s unclear from the press releases how many of the admits received acceptances from both Emory and Oxford and of those how many chose Oxford. It’s also unclear how Emory and Oxford fared in EDII. So it’s unclear how much of the incoming class seats for the Class of 2022 at Oxford had been filled prior to RD.
@BiffBrown : The WHEEL does not, but the magazines do. The Wheel isn’t as interested in Oxford. In fact, I rarely see regular articles on other issues written about them. As for how many have been filled, it almost always ranges from 45-50%. To split hairs within that range is a waste of time. I really doubt this year would be exceptional. They got lots more apps. in the RD round so admitted the same amount of students (actually they probably would have done so even if they didn’t get more apps).
Oxford has it’s own newspaper which explains the lack of Oxford coverage in the Wheel.
