Also, I have some questions. I noticed that even though Emory is need-blind, low income students with stellar stats, especially Asians, were frequently rejected from Emory, whereas students with average stats who could pay full tuition frequently got admitted. (especially Asians) Does financial aid have an effect on admission even though the school is need-blind? Also, what would be a safe SAT score for an Asian applying to Emory? I noticed that only people with very high SAT scores getting rejected from Emory were the Asians, at least on the College Confidential threads. Oh and also, is taking Korean sat2 a bad idea?

@bernie12 @aluminum_boat @CrispyBullet

@parkhyoshin : No, there were whites and others rejected as well. Yield protection could be at play or all their ECs look similar, or maybe Emory was a “blowoff” for them so they put little effort into the application and essays (and the supplemental essays were not the easiest if you were insincere or simply interested in applying to Emory as a safety). Plenty of Asians obviously gain admission and they have high scores, international or not (CC doesn’t = the 4900 admitted). Take a good luck at your ECs and how you sell them in the essay and actually put effort in.

In your case, you are statistically qualified, but that EC list looks very laundry list like (where is the really deep engagement, special project, awards, etc?). You’ll have to highlight a couple that you really really like and be able to explain how it fits into the Emory ethos.

@bernie12 thanks so much for your comment. is it a huge turndown if I don’t have any real deep engagement in the EC? And also, can financial aid affect my admission chance?

@parkhyoshin

Financial aid will not affect your odds unless you are international. They either want you enough or they don’t. And yes it certainly will not help you stand out if you do not have deeper engagement. Again, if you do not, I would choose the ones you hold most dearly and describe your interest and involvement in them thoroughly and sincerely.

@bernie12 thanks!
