Hey guys! So cool to see everyone posting on here. Thought I’d post my stats and see if I could get my chances…
GPA 3.90 UW
ACT: 32
EC’s: President of Student Government, President of Concert Bands, VP of Mock Trial, Sit on various committees on my district’s board of education, Officer in FBLA, Project manager for science competition, had an internship at a financial firm, in 8 honor societies, tutoring, community service at local Chabad
My mom is also a legacy and has donated money over the years because she loves Emory so much!
Let me know what you guys think. Awesome to see everyone is in the same boat.
Hey, if we all get in, my dad works at the CDC, and he might be able to hook us up with some internships And do you guys know, is it supposed to notify you when they start reviewing your application?
@Oliea98 I don’t think so…mine hasn’t changed yet but you can tell they’ve been working on your account when you see your to do list change. For example, I know that financial aid info was attached to my account recently. But besides that, all we can do it wait.
And if you want to know a timeline of what they do and how they review apps, there’s a great blog post about it in last year’s “live blogging” for ED1.
By tomorrow they’ll start getting in small committees I guess.
Hope that eases some anxiety and helps to pass the time!
It seems like you all should be able to get in based on stats…hopefully the “E.Bola” bump in applications wears off as they may increase chances for you all even further; as in, if the app. numbers don’t end up as high as last year (as interesting as it would be for that momentum to continue, I have my doubts). However, given how holistic the admissions are, that may not mean much in the long run. Either, good luck and try not to stress so much. Just continue to do well in your classes and it will pay off in some way or another no matter what happens with Emory.
@bernie12 Well I suppose it depends on what you’d want to be working with over there. Thankfully for me, he works in the head office for what I’m most interested in. @ismitah And thank you, that does help! I was starting to get worried because I thought they hadn’t reviewed mine yet. And I actually stumbled across that blog post just today! It is really fascinating to know everything that’s going on behind the scenes right now
If your to do list says complete after everything, you’re good to go right? I read something online where they say you’re to do list disapears. Mine is physically on OPUS but everything is completed. I don’t quite understand what they mean by disappear.
@ADJP23 the items in the list will disappear once they’re done. For example, my ED1 agreement form was initiated for a while and then when it changed to complete it got taken off the list the next day. But yes, your to do list will always be there.
@bernie12 I’m thinking the bump has decreased too. But surprisingly, there was an article released on nov 25th of last year (emory wheel) that while ED1 applications have increased in number, the percent increase compared the the percent from the year before is lower. So it seems like even with the ebola bump last year there was a lessened rate of increase for ed1 apps? I thought that was kinda interesting. If anything, I would think that last year would be a high increase of growth of people who want to go to Emory as their first choice.
@Oliea98 i feel like the number 42% sounds just about right…I have no idea where I got that number from but I think I calculated so a while back. They don’t outright say it but if you look at the number of ED1 apps last years and compare it to 49% of last years emory college class, you’ll get a percent. In Emory’s fast facts page, at the very bottom, they say that 49% of their class are ED kids
ACT Composite: 32
English: 28
Math: 34
Reading: 28
Science: 36
Math 2 Subject Test: 720
AP Calculus Test: 5
AP Biology Test: 4
GPA: 4.175 (3.9 unweighted)
My Brother is a current sophomore on the deans list. What do you guys think my chances are of admission?
@ismitah I feel like % increase doesn’t matter that much because of well…math. Of course, it should be more difficult to top previous years percentage wise if each year has even a slightly higher amount than the previous. It should become hyperbolic unless the school has some shameful marketing tactics or is cheating. Also, if there are to be any significant gains, one would expect it in Regular Decision rounds which is what happened I think. I’m saying that I don’t expect that to do as well either. However, Emory, with exception of last year (where it broke 20k and had lots of exciting things happening in general) isn’t the type to really rub in and remind some students of how competitive it is over and over again…like some schools I can think of, I have one that is also in the south in mind. Emory usually takes the humble brag route which seems to involve talking about the demographics much lesser so than things like academic stats…I honestly think this is a better way and is more warm toward a stressed bunch of applicants.
