Emory Financial aid

So I was accepted edii and just went on opus to check my financial aid status and it says that i'm only being offered 5.5k a year in loans. That is some serious bs because i thought i would at least get some free money in grants to help me pay off the 55k annual tuition. My dad makes ~180k a year and my mom doesn't work. I also have a younger sister.

How much did you guys get in aid?

Also how much are the loan rates?

180k a year and you expected need-based grants? High cost of living?

loan rate is about 6.8 I think. the thing is, unless your family makes less than 100k a year including assets, you are not going to get any aid other than loans. even when your family makes 75k, there is very little free money. remember that room/board/food is not included in financial aid so the minimum everyone has to pay is about 11k a year. that’s why most people who are in emory are either rich, very poor, or parents work there so they get tuition discount.

*** id be better off taking a loan from a private company… what kind of financial aid is that??

Kangster im so with you bro, i got the same amount $5,500 in loans, and my parents make 1/3 of ur dad , *** is up with the aid department man?

I have loans too… I think its because we all did a form of early decision so they dont have to offer good financial aid because we have to go there.

@emory83 can you verify for me the mandatory payment of 11k per year? I’m pretty sure the Emory Advantage program, specifically the Loan Replacement Grant covers for room, board and food.

if you read under the financial aid/cost of attendence website for emory college, you will see that food is not covered under financial aid. emory advantage only count in financial aid so if food which is about 5k is not part of financial aid, its not covered by emory advantage. Most schools don’t cover board in financial aid either. so that part I think emory might not either but the food/other expenses are not covered in financial aid. when you add the cost for food, board, books, other expenses, you get about a little over 11k of cost you have to pay.
