Emory for finance

I am trying to add a couple of Universities to my list and Emory seems interesting. I have seen that Emory holds a lot of prestige and has a pretty good salary after graduation for finance. Nevertheless, I don’t see it in any rankings, such as U.S. News. Are there any testimonies about working in finance after going to Emory? What do you guys recommend?

Try Reddit for more in depth answers in finance, however Giozueta BBA is ranked 14 or 15 depending on the ranking. GBS specializes in consulting, however has great finance placement. I know several friends that went to Goldman, Morgan Stanley, and City Bank. Here’s a jobs report for BBA’s 2016.( I don’t think they released 2017 yet)

Above is Poets & Quants overall ranking of 15.

US News provides the same ranking above. Maybe you missed that one.

Above Fortune has Emory at #7

I do want to add something as I don’t believe anyone should choose Emory and GBS because of rankings. Choose Emory for the right reasons and that includes supplementing your business education with Emory’s outstanding liberal arts. Emory is collaborative and not cut throat and has an outstanding leader in Dean Erika James. Also, agree with Vandemory on Finance as the #1 major at GBS.

It’s not just graduate placement. It’s also about internship opportunities in Atlanta for Emory GBS students. @Vincent1997 , continue to do your homework and find a great fit FOR YOU. It might be GBS, but could also be Kelley, Wharton, Ross, Stern, or anywhere else. Each program brings something different to the table. Find the one that works for you.

Oops, that Fortune ranking is an old Poets & Quants ranking. The point is that GBS is a highly rated undergraduate business program and that Finance is the top major. I would think that most who get into Emory could also get into higher ranked business schools, but choose to go to Emory for more than just GBS.

@VANDEMORY1342 Thanks for that link! I have a better idea of Emory now.

@ljberkow I appreciate all the information! As far as fit goes, I think Emory works well for me. I don’t like to be in a city center (Stern) and prefer smaller schools that are more “relaxed”.

@Vincent1997 : I hope you mean a relaxed surrounding environment and social scene. Unfortunately (if you are looking for the opposite of what I am about to say), the business school nor the pre-reqs directly associated with it are not particularly relaxed academically. Emory and its students lean more towards the academically serious spectrum of things (and I do not just mean in the: “well it is a top tier private school so people want to make A’s”, though there is that too).

This is a pretty good read. All top 20 business schools are tough. That link describes the collaborative nature of GBS and how students work together. Every school these days will emphasize that they provide a collaborative environment. Some do it better than others.

If you are applying RD to Emory and are admitted, you should spend some time focusing on GBS at your admitted students day. Good luck.

@bernie12 I did mean socially, yes  I prefer a smaller school that isn’t too busy and where I don’t get lost between 30000 other students.
