Emory, Georgia Tech, or UGA Honors?

I would like to either go to medical school or do research in Biology or Biochemistry. Which school would set me up to be the most competitive in the job market and/or the most prepared for research?
I'm also really into music. I know UGA and Emory have pretty good music programs. Emory is super expensive. And Georgia Tech is solid in the sciences.

Georgia Tech is in a kind-of skeevy area and the dorms and food are pretty spartan. It’s a great school academically, but if you’re a female you may find it to be too male-dominated (2:1 male-to-female ratio).

Emory is not “super expensive” if your family makes less than $60K a year, in which case full need is guaranteed to be met (Emory is need-blind and full-need). If your family makes less than $100K, I do believe they have a cap on the loans-- $15K or thereabouts.

I don’t know much about UGA Honors, but UGA is a HUUUUUUUUUGE school. Football is really, really big there (duh, lol). Football is also big at GT (GT and GA are bitter rivals), but amusingly, Emory’s football slogan is thus: “175 Years: Still Undefeated”, because Emory doesn’t have a football team.

It really depends on which school will make you happy, because you (obviously) will do best when happy.

Emory is smaller than GT is smaller than UGA; I would expect that at GT and UGA a great deal of the classes will be very, very large. Additionally, Emory is right next door to the CDC which could potentially set you up with some sweet internships…

Emory is a definite no-no; the medical schools won’t care if you choose it over the others, and all you will do is rack up more debt. If you are really looking to get into medical school, forget about the music—it will get in the way of the massive amount of additional courses you will need for pre-med. If you are going to actually participate in the Honors program at UGA, definitely go there. I know that anectdotal evidence is not always the best, but I know a greater percentage of UGA pre-med students who went to UGA than Tech students that went on to med school. Now, if you aren’t going to participate in the UGA Honors program and want a strong back-up if you don’t get into medical school, which is very likely (you never know what could happen), go to Georgia Tech. Just avoid Emory for undergraduate; their medical school is worth it, though. The above poster is really failing to consider that this person is certainly in-state and most likely has a free ride to UGA and Tech.
