Emory Housing- Single vs Double

I am applying for housing and am not sure what to choose. As far as coed goes I do not mind girls and boys in the same halls, but what did you choose? Is single more expensive than a double? Is having a roomate the college experience? Thanks! Also can you choose your building (or suggest which one you want) if so which freshman building is closest to campus?

Double really makes the college experience but there may be sometimes when you just didn’t wish you had a roomate. Once you fill out the housing application, you are sent an email where you can apply for the themed housing.

TJC747, I could see you in a single. Peeling the cabbage if you know what I mean. ;)

Heya! I just finished up my Freshman Year at Emory. I loved every minute of it. ^_^

Singles are indeed a little more expensive. According to the official Rates and Amenities Page on Emory’s housing website (<a href=“Residence Life and Housing Operations | Emory University | Atlanta GA):%5B/url%5D”>Residence Life and Housing Operations | Emory University | Atlanta GA):

Freshman Doubles cost $3,494 for 2011-2012 school year
Freshman Singles cost $3,737 for 2011-2012 school year

I personally chose to live in a double, and I was EXTREMELY happy with my roommate. In my opinion, the true college experience includes a roommate, and I know a lot of people who were quite happy living with a roommate regardless of whether they chose each other or they were matched randomly. However, a couple of my friends were rather unhappy with their assigned roommates. One of them complained and eventually switched roommates, the other stuck through to the end.

It’s all about personal taste. Do you want the college experience of living with a roommate? Or do you need your own space? The new singles in Turman, Fevans, and LSM are really nice and only slightly smaller than the new doubles. The one Harris single I saw paled in comparison to the Harris double, though I hear that rooms tend to vary in Harris.

One other point: there are basically NO singles available for sophomores. I hear there are only about 12 singles in Woodruff, and they all go to scholars. When deciding about Freshman year, expect to live with at least one roommate Sophomore year.

All freshman residence halls are in the center of campus. As TJC747 mentioned, you have to apply to live in one of the newer themed halls (Turman, Few, Evans, and Longstreet-Means). If you choose not to apply for one of the newer halls, I don’t believe there is a way of choosing between the older halls (Harris, McTyeire, Trimble, and Dobbs.)

Thanks which housing did you choose? Which one is best in terms of location? I will now choose doubles thank you! Also how did you manage time and are classes hard?

Get a double. If this is the first time you are away from home, its easy to get lonely in a single. With a double, you will already know at least 1 person on campus during the first couple of days, and if you have trouble meeting people you and your roommate can meet people together.
