Emory in the future..?

Hey I was wondering if this looks like what Emory tends to like for music/creative writing majors:

*GPA: 4.19 weighted (going to rise)
3.82 unweighted (same)
*Rank: 31/317
*SAT: (they're not fair)..writing 610, crit reading 520, math 550.
*ACT: Taking it June 10th.
*9th grade i took almost all honors (I have 2 B's on my transcript and 1 b+), 10th grade i took 2 honors but got A's across the board, this year (11) i took 1 ap and 4 honors and have all A's. Next year, I am taking 4 AP's (2 AP and 2 ap weighted honors) and 1 actual honors class.

Extracurriculars/interesting facts:
*People to people student ambassador program (summer of 2002)
*GLSEN board member (helps teach others about diversity)
*junior mendelssohn choir (2 years i a row, and soon to be next year!)
*voice lessons (past 2 years and when i was 8 and 9)
*piano lessons (11 1/2 years)
*cantoring for my rabbi for high holidays
*jazz choir (including a performance at PNC park, Pittsburgh's baseball stadium--soon to be 2 years)
*chamber choir (most elite choir in high school-soon to be 4 years)
*County chorus
*Showchoir in middle school (7th/8th grade)
*District chorus
*Played piano for high school orchestra in 9th grade
*3 piano competitions in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade
*Classical Singer competition
*Music Theory class over the summer (coming)
*National Honors Society
*Played piano/sung in numerous nursing homes for the past several years.
* (I might be writing for the local "free" newspaper to get experienced w/writing).
*6 months of Saxophone (5th grade!)
*1.5 years of guitar in 8th/9th grade.
*Anime Club in 9th grade.
There are about 3 or 4 I forgot about by the way ^_^

Thanks!!

I don't think Emory's music program is that good, but creative writing is very good.

As for your chances, I would say if you raise your scores you have a shot. (1200+ math/verbal) As it stands, I would say the scores are too low even though GPA/Rank are good.

I don't usually comment on these. No one here is on the admission committee, thus we cannot tell you whether or not you would be accepted. Do the best you can, send in an application, and hope for the best.

In any case, I think it would be helpful for you to note that by contacting someone from the music department, building a repoir, and sending them the music equivalent of an art portfolio (whatever that would be, a cd maybe?) for evaluation, professors can and do make some reccomendations to the admissions committee.

Also, creative writing as a major is by application through the English Department. I don't think it's a particularly competitive application, but they want to see you commit to it before you're accepted into the program. All the creative writing classes require permission to enroll in them. Andrea De Man is the secretary in the English Department. She is really nice, knows everything about the English Department, and can help you with more information.

Let me know if you have any other questions, too.

Here is the official decision thread for the class of 2010 with applicant stats and their respective decisions. In other words, not speculation but rather factual information.

Curriculum - seems to be strong, not sure how it compares to what is offered in your HS.

GPA - in the ballpark

Borderline but OK, since 90% of Emory admits are in the top 10% (note that many students do not get ranked)

SATs - well below average. Keep in mind that Emory's 25th percentile M + V score is usually in the low 1300s. You have a chance to improve and hopefully the ACT will be better suited for you.

Strong in music with many individual performances. Compared to oother applicants, I would say that your ECs are OK, nothing spectacular.

Since you are not a URM, Emory is a reach with a slightly better chance if you apply ED.

I assume you are compiling a list of match and safety schools. Actually I just noticed that you bombarded dozens of school on this board with the same question. Other schools you posted on such as Kent State, Drexel, Temple, Gettysburg might be better matches for you. Some of the LACs might be a good match foor you. Guess you need to devise a list of schools that fit your needs.
