Emory- Main Campus?

hey, so I'm wondering what my chances are at emory main campus. I'm a little sub par, i know. but i like my essays and so did my teachers.

Location: CA

ACT: 27, but math 28 and english 32

AP's: Span- 5 Eng- 4 US History- 3

GPA: 3.28

ECs listed on app: football, track, was in 2 clubs, and work

Job/Work Experience: did finances that were really receipts at a family friend's company and also had a job there too

Essays (subject and responses): pretty darn good.

Teacher Recs: better than great

Counselor Rec: great

School Type: Private, does not rank

Ethnicity: Hispanic, I hope this helps a lot.

Gender:M

thanks a lot

You might have a chance. Your grades and test scores are definitely a little low for Emory, and you ec’s are average-slightly above average. However, the fact that you’re hispanic will probably help, but I don’t know if it’s enough. It’s definitely a reach, especially RD.

Good Luck!

do you think i’d have a better chance applying ED II then? thanks

I think you have a better chance with ED II. However, like siri said, your scores and GPA are relatively low. If your essays and recs are as awesome as you say they are, then you have a shot at Emory. The fact that you’re Hispanic will help some, but not a lot. Emory is already very diverse, so they don’t count race as big of a factor anymore. Best of luck though.

def a high reach either way, your lucky ur hispanic otherwise id say no chance prob.

Also, you should really consider Oxford College as a alternative. You’ll most likely get into Emory after Oxford, so it’s a good transition school.

rtang, after 2 years at oxford you immediately transition into main campus and Emory isn’t as diverse as they claim. well I don’t think so.

oh yeah, i know.

i already got in there lol, but i’m just trying my luck at main

btw, are people who to oxford looked down upon at all or is just not known.

and how is going to oxford too

mentalmystic, if you do miserably at Oxford, you’re not going onto main campus. As for diversity, I’d say with minority groups representing over 40% of the student population, Emory is pretty diverse.

you need a 2.0 or above i think

bump, but quick question: if i went to say, gtech, can i get a business certificate/degree or economics degree from emory, but then like another degree at tech too?

I don’t know what these guys are talking about, being hispanic will help you a ton. Emory has asians, middle eastern, and african american students but very few hispanics, especially dark hispanics. I still don’t know how good your chances are tho. I’d say a coin flip if I had to guess.

hopefully if they aren’t too hard with the ED agreement coming in on time then i’ll go ED II. that should help, right

i mean in theory

when i applied, they accepted 2 out of every 3 ed students and 1 out of 3 rd students. i think i remember that being one of the biggest differences of all the schools accepting ed applications.

well do you guys know if my ED agreement hasn’t been signed by my counselor and the soonest it can be signed is the 6th of january, can i still do ED II?

GSW- you should be able to mail your ED form a couple days after the deadline if you turn in your app on time. You might want to contact the Emory admissions office to tell them the form will be a couple days late.

el duque- when did you apply and where are you getting those stats from? The Emory ED admission rate is about 33% and RD is about 25% or even a little lower (an admissions officer told me this in person at my alumni interview).

just sent in the app ED II. btw, is it true that you can go to emory, but take a class in like engineering at Georgia Tech?

Yeah GSW I’ve heard somewhere that you can do that. Emory and GTech are apparently some type of partner schools.

I applied in 2005 and I wanna say Princeton Review but it also could have been in a magazine. The numbers were actually from the year before mine now that I think about it. I’m sure the numbers have changed but also I think Emory tries to downplay the advantage of ED. And admissions strategies change too. If it was 2 out of 3 in 2004 it could very easily be 1 out of 3 now if ED students haven’t done well.

There’s a 3-2 engineering program with tech, but I’m almost positive you can’t take an engineering class at tech if you’re not in the program.

according to Emory’s common data set, last year the combined ED admission rate was 30%; that number is both EDI & EDII. The RD rate was 26%.
