Emory, NYU, USC, Boston?

Realistically, do I have a good - semi-good chance at getting into these schools?

Want to major in: Biology with a Psych minor(still thinking)
I am Asian (Korean), can speak Korean, and Spanish skills are at Spanish II level. I've been living in Georgia since the day I was born, so English is my main language.

I'd really prefer to go to NYU. If not, then Emory, USC, or Boston, respectively.

I go to a private high school in Georgia. I like to believe that I have an above-average intelligence, but just a little lazy. I was pretty unmotivated until the second semester of my sophomore year, which is why my GPA is somewhat low. I have, however, taken AP/Honor courses and plan to take much more my senior year.

Even though I live in Georgia, I'd prefer to go to NYU because I love the "big city" environment. I visited Emory University when I went to the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine, and I didn't really like it. Atlanta has the worst traffic. Now, New York may be bad, but Atlanta is just unorganized. The crime rate is also pretty high there.

Anyway, I have:
-3.4-3.5 UW (plan to raise to ~3.6)
-1930 SAT (660 Math, 620 CR, 650 Writing) (plan to raise to 2000-2100)
-2 APs: World History and Art History
-3 on AP World (didn't study, was arrogant) and Taking Art this year (will study, lol)
-Will take: Biology, Economics, Government, Psychology, and (maybe) Statistics
-Honors: Geometry, Algebra II, and Biology
-Varsity Soccer this year and senior year
-Running for school pres. (have a chance at winning, odds are ~25-40%, broad, I know)
-Key Club
-Madrid and Paris (School Trip) to immerse and study language/culture
-NYLF on Medicine

Also, my writing skills aren't too great. I'd say, on a scale from 1-10, that I'd rank an 8. Essays are just bleh to me. I hate them and they hate me. I tend to digress to a certain degree whenever I write them. I guess what I'm asking is, any advice for college app. essays? I know a good range of vocabulary, but I never use them and never speak with them because I think it makes me sound too "fluffy." Also, commas are my weak point.

Honestly, I couldn’t tell you your chances without you first telling me your class rank and course rigor. At some private schools that 3.4-3.5 is a good GPA. If a 3.4-3.5 is good for your school and you are highly ranked, then your chances are reasonable for all of them. Also, which Boston school are you talking about? Boston College or Boston University? Cause there is a big difference in admissions difficulty. You would likely get in at BU with a 3.4-3.5 and a 1930, but BC will be much more difficult.

Chance me back:

Sorry, I tried to add my rank, but it said I had to wait another 20 minutes. Also, I was talking about Boston College.

Rank: top 20%
Freshman: no honors/AP - 3.2 GPA
Sophomore: 1 AP/1 Honors - 3.5 GPA
Junior: 1 AP/1 Honors - 3.7 currently (can easily maintain)
Senior: Will take 3 APs/maybe 1 Honors

Planning on at least a 30 on ACT.

Wish I could Chance you back, but I have no idea whatsoever.

If you actually get a 30 on the ACT, you have a chance, though most people at those schools are in the top 10%. Definitely apply, and you may just get lucky (especially considering english isn’t your first language).

And don’t worry about it. Best of luck to you.

In my defense, we only have 105 students in my grade. Small school (less than 500).

They’ll review everything, you have a shot, but there are stronger applicants out there (myself NOT being one of them). Just apply and hope for the best. No one here can say for sure whether you will or won’t get in. You have a shot, especially for NYU (I think), but the other 3 (don’t know too much about USC) appear to be reaches.
