Emory or UF?

"how do you know UF acceptance rate is under 40%"

<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=324868%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=324868</a></p>

Actual acceptance rate this year was 48%. This is directly from an email I received from the director of admissions. Here are other statistics that were given as the reason UF is going to a single admission date next year:

Total applications for a freshmen class of 6,600 have increased
by 18% to over 25,000.

The percentage of applicants admitted has decreased from 62% to
48%

The percentage of admits enrolling (yield) has increased from
55% to 64%.

Early Decision applications have grown from 10% to 20% of total
applications.

The Early Decision admit rate has decreased from 58% to 47%.

The academic quality of those admitted has increased from a
middle 50% GPA and SAT of 3.8-4.3 and 1200-1380 in 2004 to 3.9-4.4 and
1220-1390 in 2006.

"Actual acceptance rate this year was 48%."

I think you are mixing up years. Some of your stats apply to the entering freshman class of 2006-7 and some apply to those who applied for the 2007-8 school year (class of 2011). I believe the 48% applies to those students who are freshman now. I believe the "just under 40% " number applies to those students who just applied and who will enter in 2007. If the the admittance rate for this year were 48%, then the number of enrolling students would be 25,000 x 0.48 x 0.64 = 7,680 which exceeds the size of the freshman class.

The SAT and GPA stats you cited are also for the current freshman class. It will be interesting to see how much higher each of these goes for the class who enters in 2007. My guess is that the increase will be significant.

Yes, I think you are correct. The 48% refers to freshman entering fall 2006 (class of 2010), but email sent to counselors was not clear on that point. I don't believe the increase will be as significant as an 8+% drop for the class of 2011.
