Emory Parents

Just back from dropping off D. I was very impressed with how organized and smooth everything went. H had not been to Emory before this weekend and was very, very impressed. The students seem like a nice blend of interested in academics, interesting, and diverse. Maybe they just picked the perky kids to help out, but all of the older students were enthusiastic without being saccharine. The campus looked gorgeous and there was an air of energy and excitement. I spent the week in Atlanta waiting for D to return from her trip so I could attend orientation and Atlanta felt the same way. D had plenty of help to navigate course selection and is off to a good start. It feels so clear now that Emory was/is the perfect fit for her. Senior year seemed so uncertain but it does all work out in the end. I am excited for all that awaits D and excited about Emory's future. How were other experiences? P.S. I thought Dr. Duke's lecture about what to expect in the first year was outstanding and it really helped us plan our good bye. I thought he was great.

When my D got back from Adventure Orientation she ran off with her new friends. I tagged along but seriously felt like a 5th wheel. I ended up leaving early (on Saturday) after having spent the week waiting for her return from her trip. I was tearful as I got on the plane. But seeing her at Emory, so happy and engaged, made me realize that Emory is definitely the right place for her.

I wish I had heard Dr. Duke's talk. Please tell me the highlights.

Third child/student/young adult sent to college in our family. All great schools. He was so funny/real about the whole experience of sending a child to college. I was laughing and crying at the same time! I told my son to take a course with him. The hour went by in 15 minutes. If I was sitting in a class, I would not have wanted it to end. I think this is probably true of all of the profs. I was so impressed by the whole experience - our son loves this school - the FAME is incredible. These kids will not get all A's - but if there is any kind of problem we will know. Love this college! Let me know if you need anymore info. I have been in touch with son - his own stuff - meal plan update, etc. - not my stuff. Dr. Duke - "Stay out of it - we now have your high school senior, readining (word?) to become a college student."

If Dr. Duke is indicative of the caliber of the Emory faculty, our children will receive an outstanding education. My wife and I found Dr. Duke's lecture to be informative, humorous and heartfelt. Further, it greatly greatly assisted us in dealing with our separation anxiety. With regards to the move-in, not having to lift a finger while the Van was being unloaded was a godsend!

Long ago in a galaxy far away was an Emory hangout at the corner of Briarcliff and Clairmont, I believe.
I was 19 or 20 and a UGA student from Atlanta. On college breaks, friends and I would hang out at the pub near Emory with beach music on the jukebox and Emory and Agnes Scott students there as well.
This is more than 25 years ago, I hate to admit.
Can't remember the name of the place, but it was probably an Irish pub-like name. Is it still there?
I know Everybody's Pizza is still nearby, but that's a bit too famous and well-visited by - ahem - everybody. For an upcoming Emory visit with my daughter, I'm seeking a student hangout for Friday night dinner. Any recommendations? Is that old pub with its jukebox still around?
