Emory RD Class of 2022

@ljberkow thanks. I didn’t even realize there was an option to apply for scholarship…

@caleegalee I heard it was in the Emory section of the common ap. I’m thinking many kids, knowing not much about this, just checked the box Yes, significantly driving up the amount of applications to Scholars. I really don’t know too much about the actual program. I just don’t believe that those not chosen or even not hearing early about a standard RD application are impacted much at all. Emory accepted significantly less ED1s this year and that may have some positive bearing on RD applicants too.

Does an email from Emory after their preliminary review about wanting additional information for your choral abilities mean that you could be getting in?

@collegedream871 : A huge chunk of the applicant pool “could” be getting in, that just means they want to directly evaluate that talent if you have it. If it seems like something important enough to put on the application, they want to see what your involvement looks like. When they say “holistic review” that is what they mean…they want to see if some students stand out or have a place. It just provides another evaluation method that I guess most schools without a performing arts conservatory don’t use. Talent is up in the first category, above essay, volunteer work (makes sense as most students applying to these places have tons of that), and standardized scores even. Also, possible someone mentioned it in recommendations, in which case, that may have alerted them. Talent and recommendations appear to be things many elite schools do not put in the first category (perhaps because they don’t have time to read thoroughly or just choose not to).

@jjjjjjjog You have good extracurricular activities, and your internship at the language institute sounds compelling. And, because you have experience in game development and website design, I think you’d have a match to the computer science major. However, your SAT score is in the lower range, and the fact you applied to financial aid and that Emory is need-aware to international applicants can bring you certain disadvantage.

At this point, your application has been submitted so there’s nothing you can do. Even chancing. Relax, man, and pray for the best!

@jjjjjjjog
Students have gotten in with lower stats, so you definitely have a chance. However they had hooks and having one would be beneficial to you.

@getmeoutofherexd I think you have a solid shot of RD acceptance. Well done, and good luck wherever you choose to attend.

@getmeoutofherexd interesting background. Quick question for you. When you researched for profit colleges, di you look at Minerva? Any thoughts? Oh, and good luck with Emory.

@ljberkow No I didn’t look at Minerva as much as the general trends

Thanks @getmeoutofherexd, I learned this year (from mailings to my home) that there are for-profits like University of Phoenix and there are also ones like Minerva, which play on the higher end.

I didn’t mean to distract from the thread and wish you the best with the selection and with your decision process.

Does anyone know anything about when decisions will come out?

@debateIguess I know that decisions will come out around the last week of March, but I don’t doubt that helps, sorry :frowning:

Update: Based on previous years’ threads, I would say that it is guaranteed for decisions to start being released between Wednesday, March 28, 2018 to Saturday, March 31, 2018. Just 25-28 days of waiting guys! We got this :slight_smile:
