Emory Scholars 2011

Woohoo! Far as the essay went, mine was written sort of last minute. But for some reason, it came to me easily. Congrats to everyone one else who is a semi-finalist, and good luck to everyone else!

My last name starts with a C, got the message at 7:05 (about 40 minutes ago)

Dear (adchang):

Congratulations! On behalf of the Admission Committee and the Emory Scholars Selection Committee, I am delighted to invite you to join the Emory University community as a member of the Emory College Class of 2015. I am also pleased to inform you that out of over 2500 applicants, you have been selected as a semifinalist in the 2011 Emory Scholars Program. This elite group of 350 nominees represents the top high school seniors in the world.

In the semifinalist review, faculty and staff from various departments and offices around Emory University will comprise a selection committee which will ultimately name nearly 200 scholarship winners. Approximately fifty finalists will be chosen from this group and invited to campus for interviews March 23-26. Attendance for the full four days of Scholar Finalist Weekend is required of finalists who wish to remain in competition for a full tuition Emory scholarship. An additional group of semifinalists will receive either Liberal Arts Scholarships or the John Emory Scholarships, ranging from $11,000 up to 2/3 tuition. All semifinalists will be notified of their status in the Emory Scholars program by late February.

If you are a US citizen or Permanent Resident of the US, you should make plans to apply for need-based financial aid as the Emory Scholars review process continues. With over 60% of Emory’s first year class receiving some form of financial assistance to attend, it is common for Emory Scholar nominees to qualify for substantial need-based financial aid. You may register for and complete the College Scholarship Service PROFILE online at [CSS/Profile - student financial aid application](<a href=“College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools”>How to Complete the CSS Profile® – BigFuture | College Board) or by phone at 800-778-6888 by February 15, 2011. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is also required of all financial aid applicants. You may submit the FAFSA online at [Home - FAFSA on the Web-Federal Student Aid](http://www.fafsa.ed.gov) by February 15, 2011. Both forms are required by our Financial Aid Office in order to evaluate your eligibility for financial aid. Please note: Need based financial aid is not available for international students.

We will mail additional details about your admission. To reserve your place in the Class of 2015, you must send a non-refundable deposit of $450 along with Emory’s Admission Response Card no later than May 1, 2011. The deposit includes an orientation fee, a housing reservation fee, and a credit towards the first semester tuition. Please note that a deposit should only be sent to the one school you plan to attend. Visit [Regular Decision Admitted Student Information | Emory College of Arts and Sciences Admission](http://www.emory.edu/admitted) to print Emory’s Admission Response Card, to review information about your admission, and to learn about important next steps.

Carefully read the enclosed Acceptance Agreement that outlines the terms of your admission. Your admission is conditional pending receipt of your final secondary school transcript and documentation of graduation. Be advised that the Admission Committee expects the same level of academic achievement and personal conduct through the completion of your senior year. Failure to maintain this level of performance and schedule of courses could result in a withdrawal of our admission offer.

Later this spring you will receive information about orientation and academic advising from the Dean of Emory College. New student housing information will be sent in April. If we can assist you as you finalize your plans for the fall, please feel free to contact us!

Good luck with the rest of your senior year. I am happy to offer you a place among us, and I look forward to welcoming you to Emory next fall.

Sincerely,

Jean D Jordan
Dean of Admission

@adchang: congratulations!! that’s so exciting.

my last name begins with an L…anyone else around that?

My last name is in the latter half of alphabet, and I sent it in the final day too and I already got it.

Does everyone get an email, regardless of decision? They lost my payment so I’m thinking that will mess up my notification… :[ anyone else had this problem?

Does anyone know when scholars find out about finalist status?
And also, does this mean that you don’t necessarily get scholarship money even if you’re a finalist?

I’m pretty sure all finalists get scholarship money of some sort.

Didn’t get in. Can’t really afford Emory without it, so I guess I’m not going.

Oh well, it wasn’t my first choice anyway.

Congrats to those who got in!

Man no email. Judging by adchang’s email though, this is different for ED applicants

Anyone who was accepted ED –> have you received anything yet?

Accepted!!!

My email was sent at 8:03.

Hahaha, sorry I meant *does this mean you don’t necessarily get scholarship money even if you’re a semifinalist?

Semifinalist!
sat 2230.

When do they notify you if you are a finalist? Is it the “late February” part?

I was wondering the same thing. So only 50 finalists out of the 350?

i still didn’t get an email  last initial s, sent it in on the last day. nothing on opus either.

@Sockcreature If you can’t afford it, I’m guessing you qualify for financial aid, so you could still get a great amount through regular decision. Emory grants 100% of demonstrated need and they can be quite generous. So don’t give up hope if that’s the case!

wait do they still email you a rejection?

i can’t afford emory, but all i qualify for is student loans.

@agoodscreenname

Oh no, I won’t qualify for much. It’s more than my EFC is pretty high, and I’m unwilling to take out much in loans just for undergrad.

Congrats to those that are Semifinalists!!! Could you tell me if you applied ED? Thanks!

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone received an email saying they had not gotten into the scholars program. Or are you guys assuming because you did not get an email that you did not get in?
