DD is Early admit and merit money with RD application- 4.6 GPA, 33 ACT and very strong ECs
Early admits get a merit scholarship
Also I was wondering if anyone else had this happen to them. I didn’t apply as a vocal major but my ECs include a lot of solo and choral singing. I received an email from the department of music in November or December asking me to submit a supplemental vocal audition which I did. Were any of y’all also contacted about this and if so did you submit something?
No, @Mstudent2020 , we were not contacted till today.
Just wondering if you aren’t a Scholar finalist is there a chance to get any other kind of merit aid?
Yes! I wasn’t selected as a scholar finalist but I did get a merit scholarship of $25k/year, and was invited to the i4C (Inspire for Change) campus visit (free flight, board, and meals).
As for stats:
GPA: 4.0 Unweighted
SAT: 1580; ACT: 36
AP Tests: eight 5’s; one 4
IB Diploma (received one year early): 41/45
SAT II: World History 760; Math II 780; US History 750
I applied with the preferred major of political science; not sure if that affected anything.
Did anyone else get the i4C invite?
Yeah–think i4C just standard part of the Early Write.
I’m a scholar finalist for the Goizueta scholars program. Anyone else a finalist and/or know how many finalists are there, and how many actually get the full ride?
I got into i4c program (with 25k merit) and they said I didn’t get in as a scholar. However, I definitely did not apply for the scholars program. Anyone know if this an error??
@initialwork Everyone who applies by 11/15 is considered for Scholars. There is no separate app.
So 100 finalists–does anyone know how many scholars are typically chosen? In particular Emory Scholars? Seems like fewer finalists than last year but still unclear how many are chosen and what the odds are.
@surfmexico491 - if you don’t get invited to the finalist weekend, you can still be accepted RD. It sounds like they are offering merit money and early acceptances to some students. They apparently changed the process in the past 3 years. When DS applied, he was not invited to the scholarship weekend, but was offered a merit scholarship of $20k with RD in March. Good luck in March.
Wondering the same thing!
i didn’t apply by then… that’s why I am confused
My DS17 got an invitation to i4C, anyone else planning on going? Any insight on what to expect on the visit from others that have attended i4C in the past?
I have a strange question—I got selected as a Scholar finalist but I submitted my application on Jan 1 for RD, i.e. definitely way after the deadline for the program. Is this a mistake? I can’t imagine them ignoring their own deadlines, but idk. Is this something that happens, or is it an error…?
Hi this isn’t a scholar question but it might involve merit scholarship so I’m posting it here. The Emory music department sent me an email requesting a singing supplement from me, which I submitted last Friday. On Sunday, the chair of the Vocal Studies program emailed me asking for more information/ why I wanted to attend Emory. I then responded to this email w/ the info he wanted to which he basically replied “thanks”. Does this have anything to do with my admission? Also, I know there is a Emory music merit scholarship, does this have anything to do with that? Ik this is very specific but if anyone else has received anything similar/ has the Emory music scholarship please let me know!
I don’t know if that says anything definitive about scholarships, but it does suggest that the department is interested in you and may put their thumb on the scale with the admissions office to have you admitted and/or given a scholarship to entice you to attend Emory. (I went through this same process for piano, and that’s what my college counselor and piano teacher, who is on the faculty at a university of similar stature, said this process typically works.)
How much merit money does a scholar finalist get if not selected for the GBS scholar program?
@yungcollegeapp
To my knowledge, there are 235 finalists across all three scholars programs and 100 of those 235 are Emory Scholars. This means that Oxford and Goizueta scholars make up those 135. Not sure how many get full rides.
