I am wondering if anyone (not just this year's applicants) who applied ED1 or ED2 (and, of course, would have had to have been accepted) made it anywhere along in the Emory Scholars selection process? Not even to award money at all, maybe made even just the 1st cut?

Am I wrong in my perception that the Scholars program is (at least partially) used to attract people to Emory vs. other schools? In other words, if you are applying ED1 or 2, there's no need to lure you away from any other schools - you've locked yourself to Emory anyway and they are better advised to spend their scholarship money attracting RD students?

i can tell u i applied ED I, got in, applied for scholars, didn’t get it - emory adcoms have said ED’ers do make it past, but i can’t see many doing so. even if they had 35,36 ACT and equivalent SAT, they would probably be applying to better schools anyway RD - i mean at least ivies or something

they would probably be applying to better schools anyway RD - i mean at least ivies or something

well, if the person is not getting in ED, (and then would NEED to apply to other schools), they weren’t scholar material anyway.

If they get in via ED, they won’t be applying (or at least having to pull their apps) at better schools) and Emory doesn’t ‘need / want’ to consider them for Emory Scholars.

I’d love to be proven wrong, but in general that’s what I’ve heard about schools in general - they know they have you hooked so there’s no need for them to reward you for your great standing / performance in high school. Again, I want to be proven wrong.

My D wanted Emory for a variety of reasons, and did not apply to the Ivys that had preapproved her application as an athlete. She was ED1, got to semi-finalist, and was eventually awarded 15K. She had a 36 ACT, was a recruited swimmer, and a 4.8 GPA. That said, I think if she had been RD she may have gone further in the process. I believe the ED applicants were at a significant disadvantage, but you could not get them to admit it. Regardless, she thinks Emory is the perfect fit for her, and she can’t wait to get there next year.

My S applied EDI and was a semi-finalist. He received 17K. Would he have advanced to finalist if he applied RD - that I don’t know. We were thrilled he received a scholarship. Emory was his first choice and he is thrilled to be attending in the Fall.
