Emory Scholars notification...

^ Ya I applied too. Any idea when we here if we are semi-finalists?

Is it showing that they received your scholars application on opus?

apparently we hear on january 16th
and yeah my opus tells me everything is good to go.

ergh… i hate waiting.

It’s not showing on mine. I guess I will have to contact admissions.

OPUS says I have everything in, too. I sent in like, 5 letters of rec, though. I talked to the secretary on the phone, and I could tell she was barely holding in laughter.

I’m really hoping that I get it! My aunt is a prof there (she directed a dept for a while) and she’s talked to the dean about my app a couple times. and she wrote me a LOR… and she facilitated me talking to a couple other profs in the departments I’m interested in. I’m really hoping that all this involvement will help when they consider my app. My aunt was even offered a spot on the scholars committee, but she took a sabbatical instead. :/

All of that said, Emory’s known to purposefully reject students with family connections to the university to make a point about nepotism. I hope they like me enough to not do that!!!

Anyone here trying to do the georgia tech combined program? It looks really cool.

YES!!
I want to study creative writing/env. sciences on emory’s campus and environmental engineering at GA Tech!!

does anybody know when we’ll hear anything? I know last year it was on Jan 16.

Darn… I thought we heard back sooner than that… For some reason, I thought I remembered reading that we heard back by the 1st… :(

Would you guys advise sending out an updated resume at this point?
That application was forever ago, and I must confess that my app was scrambled together in last-minute hope and desperation.

Or would sending a resume now seem rash or presumptuous?

I’m an applicant as well and I was wondering if my OPUS page should show an application for Emory Scholars under the My Applicants heading. At this time, mine only shows an application to Emory University for Undergraduate Emory College. Is this okay?

Dufourspitze:

Check your “To-Do List”, right side column. Ideally, at this point, it should show “no outstanding items”, but click on “Details”.
As long as OPUS shows your “Scholar Nom” (both school and student portions) completed, you should be fine!
[[For peace of mind: mine doesn’t have an application to Emory Scholars under the My Applicants heading either–I don’t think they’re supposed to]]

Thank you so much junipermellow!!

Do applicants who applied ED hear before RD applicants?

Ok, so, if I applied for the Emory Scholars, should I also apply for financial aid? If I don’t get scholars, I’m not even really going to consider going to Emory, so the financial aid is sort of a non-issue…I got into one of my top choices early, and their financial aid is better than Emory’s anyways…

natim1: If you aren’t really interested in Emory, then why bother applying for financial aid, especially if you’re already in a top choice?

Don’t waste your time and Emory’s resources if you aren’t interested!

Do you have any idea when applicants will be notified if they are Emory Scholar Semifinalists or not?

Thanks.

Can’t you read the answers given on the previous page of this thread?

I can’t wait until the 16th! It’ll be my first college admission decision and I’m hoping to at least make it to semifinalist.

What are your stats, if you don’t mind my asking?

4.0 GPA unweighted
2300 SAT
229 PSAT (Semifinalist/Finalist)
800 SAT II Math 2
800 SAT II Bio M
760 SAT II Chem
1st Quintile at an extremely competitive international school which doesn’t rank, only puts us in quintiles.

Though in all honesty, most Emory Scholars probably have better scores or similar scores than I do. It’s mainly the extracurricular activities and essays I think.

What about you?
