Why do so many people place such importance on the SAT? It is a poor judge of academic success/potential and colleges realize that. Yes, you cannot completely bomb this test but it is not the be all end all in any college or scholarship decision. It's about the entire package: academic rigor, clear passions and interests, academic achievement (which can be demonstrated in countless ways beyond the SAT/ACT), and the impressions you leave on adults throughout your education. So now for my stats: oh wait, it doesn't matter! A University's decision is not solely based on a table of numbers but also a comprehensive evaluation of things that cannot be quantified.

ebaernl... you may be preaching to the choir. I doubt that anyone here truly feels that the SAT is the primary factor for selection. It is, however, the quickest, easiest, and most universal way for students to compare themselves to each other. While you can definitely argue the needlessness for this kind of sizing up, you don't have to assume that we all have poor judgment.

Accepted, SAT 2370, ACT 35.

Kinda worried about the deadline too...remember sending my application in on 31st of October, classic procrastination and luck. Congrats to everyone else.

Does anyone know when the finalists were notified last year?

ebaernl:

Schools like Emory, Vandy, USC, WashU, Tulane, Richmond, Miami (and many others) use merit money to attract future scholars, compete with the Ivy League, AND to move up the USNews rankings. Think about all the colleges that offer automatic discounts to NMSF's -- all based on one ~2 hour test. Unfortunately, "academic rigor, clear passions and interests, academic achievement" is not part of USNews formula. So, yes, good test takers (and high scorers) have an advantage.

Status: Rejected

SAT: 2330; 780-790 for all SAT II's; 4.02 GPA

I admittedly was disappointed since I am applying from TJHSST and I thought I had great essays/reasons for going to Emory (I know, that's objective, right? :-P). Traditionally, though, TJ kids don't accept Emory's offer (they usually offer the Emory Scholars status to two people), so I don't know. I guess I should see if any other TJ students got it and see what were their stats.

Again, congrats to those who got it.

***, i totally didnt expect that.
im a semifinalist
and my score was only 2110

They only admitted students with 2100 sat and higher and with 33 act and higher, for what i see now and last year on CC. which is understandable because it's a MERIT scholarship! however i hope average kids ( 31act 2000 sat) will have a chance to get in in March!

yea i hope so. my SATs are at the very low end of the scholar spectrum, however i have all 800s for SAT IIs, and a perfect GPA.

^^ima: if you made semi, you are also accepted. Congrats.

please post if you've received a letter via snail mail! it would be much appreciated.

Rejected, ACT 35, UW GPA 3.92

To anyone who did not recieve any emails and opus status hasn't changed...is there a chance we still got in? I submitted to the fact that I was rejected last night but now it seems unclear. Also Monday is MLK day...will Emory be open to take calls?

I doubt it. I don't think our acceptances/rejections have anything to do with why we haven't received notification... obviously there was some type of error. i tried to find the admissions office hours, but i came up emptyhanded. however, i think they mailed letters out yesterday, so we should be receiving them soon.

SEMIFINALIST! that's a relief...
sorry to all those who have to wait until April :(

I did not receive an email, nor did my opus status change. I assume this is simply an error. They should at least notify us if we did not make it right? Has anyone called admissions about this?

what if opus gave me a letter of semi but i didnt get any email about it (except for the one sent the day before the release). did that happen to anyone else?

semifinalist- 2230 SAT

wow, i feel i am definitely on the low end of the scholar spectrum . . . as far as test scores go.

i bet that my 2110 is the lowest SAT score for a semifinalist

semifinalist

2220 SAT
33 ACT

Submitted a 35 on the December ACT last week; don't know if it was considered.
