Got that e-mail too DarkUCF, do you know about Goizueta Scholars though? Shoot I applied to both Emory and Oxford… :/

@jrmama496 check your junk e-mail?

Oh my goodness I just realized the e-mail said “finalists” and not “semifinalists” So Emory’s not doing semifinalists this year?? :((((

Yes, checked it.

@jrmama that’s weird I hope Emory actually received your application for scholars then!

That’s weird…I never received an email either.

Well, my S applied through the Common App and completed the supplemental essays. We did receive notification that his application (Common App) was complete so I can’t imagine that the supplementals would not go through if everything else did.

I checked in my junk email and I received the email several hours back. Maybe wait until an hour befoe Emory office closes for the email. If you do not get it until then then I would suggest calling the office. I am so nervous for the decisions that come out tommorow! good luck to everyone

hope they already finalized decisions because they may otherwise be hard to send if they aren’t finished and the adcom administrators not there tomorrow (though maybe they can do it from elsewhere). You know, it’s “snowing” in Atlanta and therefore Emory is shut down today and possibly (maybe even probably) tomorrow.

Does anyone know how many applicants they usually select as finalists? And how many of those finalists get selected as Scholars? Sorry if someone already said this!

@annac6
I believe someone said 50 out of a pool of more than 2000 applicants (probably alot more this year) get the invite? And I believe that all the finalists get some sort of money but I do not know the actual number of Emory Scholars.

@megan702
No idea about Goizeta Scholars, I didn’t apply for that. Yes, it would be depressing if we were “disqualified” for running for Emory Scholars due to Oxford. At the same time, there are probably potential candidates who applied for both programs.

Any good reasons why, for the second year in a row, Emory Scholars’ weekend is the same one as Davidson’s Belk? It means if you’re lucky enough to be chosen as a finalist for both, you have to choose one to attend and have to give up trying for the other. Davidson publicizes their date at the beginning of the whole process, so it is obviously intentional – so frustrating and takes away a potentially huge scholarship opportunity.

Should I be concerned if I didn’t get an email and contact admissions? The only requirement to apply was the essay correct?

Yeah, I’m really paranoid too. I checked my common app again to make sure that I actually submitted the scholarship essay and everything. I checked the spam on my email too. If it turns out that they never processed my application I’m going to be really upset. I guess there’s nothing I can do about it now, but in such as case I think the fault would really be Emory’s.

I only got my email about an hour ago, so I wouldn’t freak out too much. I wouldn’t contact admissions unless you don’t have a notification on OPUS tomorrow at 6.

I doubt it’s intentional. I think Emory just doesn’t care. It has an ideal weekend in mind and is sticking to it. I don’t think it would attempt to compete directly with Davidson as it’s mainly using the scholarship (as all non-Ivies/very elite schools minus Duke who still has a merit scholarship) are attempting to pull some people from the very top schools. It’s inconvenient for those interested in Davidson, but they can bank on many of the scholar finalists/selects not cross-applying there and showing up to Emory. I would only be in shock if Emory placed the Scholars weekend during that of another peer institution. Outside of the “peers” (in this case means other similarly ranked schools that many students tend to cross-apply to that offer merit scholarships), I imagine Emory can care less.

My S got his email at 6:05 PM. And a friend of his from school got one at the same time.So I guess it doesn’t really mean anything. Or maybe it’s being sent by State?

My D got the email around noon today.

I didn’t get an email either. And on the admissions blog, they confirmed that there’s only a finalist status this year–there are no longer semifinalists, sadly.
