Has anyone here either been in the program or is looking to apply for it this year? Also, anyone know any stats/knowledge on how hard it is to get into the program?

If you use the College Confidential archieves to check out the stats of those who got accepted last spring, you'll see that at a minimum, one needs a 1500 SAT v, m to get accepted. ECs also have to be amazing.

Basically, Emory Scholars accepts students who also get accepted to places like HPYS. The Scholars program is Emory's way of luring students away from top 5 universities and therefore boosting Emory's rankings.

uh oh. I posted my stats on the "what are my chances?" forum on the thread called "chances at emory/john hopkins/dartmouth". While I obviously expected the competition for the program to be high, I did not think it would be at THAT level. do you still think I have any chance?

Check out this link, which shows the results of College Confidential members who applied for Emory Scholars this spring: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=27166&page=1&pp=20&highlight=Emory+Scholars

wuh oh... looks like i'm gonna have to get some good recommendations and write a good essay. I didn't think 1470 with 10 AP classes and 2 AP tests that I am studying for on my own was too bad, but I guess I just gotta hope for the best. thanks for the info

Another thread, this one on those who got the scholarship. The previous link that I posted was about the semifinalists. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=34729&page=1&pp=20

Remember that if you need need-based aid, they do offer that.

I was offered an Emory Scholars scholarship last year. The competition is definitely scary, but it is also a bit of luck. I had the test scores and the grades, but my EC's were far from average. Plus the scholars weekend was over the day when Ivies began sending out e-mails of notificiation of admission. That next day it seemed like everyone had been admitted to at least two or three ivies, but at the same time there were students like me (two denies and a waitlist from the ivies) and other students who didn't apply at all. Don't let the previous winners intimidate you. It's certainly extremely competitive, but give it a shot. It couldn't hurt, and you don't need to have cured cancer in your spare time to be an Emory Scholar or anything, but you do need a bit of luck. Good luck.

thx, i'll need it :)

it can hurt. i was majorly depressed for like a month after i got no money...as my corny and melodramatic attempt at poetry shows ;)
