So... I just got back from spending the weekend at Emory. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that it was fall break. There were pretty much no students there so, while the campus was very nice, it was hard to really get a feel for it. Out of the few students that I did see there, many were walking alone (not in groups) and seemed a little, I hate to say it, depressed. Can anyone help me out to get more of a grasp on the social scene at Emory and the typical Emory student?

yeah you def came on a bad day. we all got back to campus tonight and most people were away for the break. those people who you saw walking alone and looking depressed were only that way because all of their friends were away for the long weekend. that is definitly not the typical emory student. i suggest that if you can come back for another visit because emory is a very lively campus and also very social. wonderful wednesdays are particularly funny if you get the chance to come on a wednesday. if you have any specific questions about the social life then ask and i'll try my best to answer.

What is wonderful wednesday?

instead of making wednesday a boring day in the middle of t he week, emory has a long tradition of making them fun and interesting. this past wednesday there was music and food in the center of campus where everyone passes through. they had the pep band and art on display etc. it was a nice change. another thing they did that was interesting was perpetuate the fake rivalry between emory and wash u. our mascot the eagle and wash u's bear both came in the center and started beating each other up. i thought it was really funny but no one took it too seriously. i can't think of another school that would go through so much trouble to start a rivalry haha.

The atmosphere you saw over Fall Break is not representative of Emory University. In fact, on a normal day, you would certainly think that the school is larger than advertised (due to the graduate students, hospital, and generally busy undergraduate students).

I agree with everyone else. I give tours on Saturday mornings and continuously have to explain, yes, there really are students here, but it's only 10 am right now...you really don't get a good feel for the campus unless you visit on a normal weekday. Of course, I visited in the middle of July and still knew Emory was the place for me, so what do I know?

There was a petting zoo with zebras and kangaroos on this Wonderful Wednesday. haha

I was recently at Emory, while students were there, and everyone seemed really happy. The social atmosphere seemed friendly and open and Atlanta is a blast!

hahah wonderful wednsdays really do sound wonderful. is this like a weekly things? every single wednsday?
