EMORY University class of 2012 Early Decision

Yesterday while I was going on my way to take Biology Final exam at White Hall (almost near admissions office), I saw a lot of USPS white boxes (seems like admissions decision letter) going to the EMORY USPS station at DUC.

Emory Admissions page indicates that the decision will come out at 7:00 a.m. on the OPUS; however, according to the last year (in case of regular decision) the decision came out earlier than 7:00 a.m. and even if EMORY always says like that, it will come out eariler!

The Easiest way to go to OPUS:

Lastly, I hope y'all get into EMORY university

Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: Because even though all my other factors may have been there my SATs  just too low for Emory, I agree with Mika, everything happens for a reason. I can?t argue with that.
Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations, etc:
Congratulations everyone who got in!!! you all are great people and you deserved it, part of me feels bad that I didn?t get in b/c I wouldn?t get to share Emory class of 2012 with you. I wish you the BEST of LUCK at EMORY!!!.. and like Mika also said, I might be there in another year for transfer, you never know, but bye for now

geez why is everone accepted? makes me feel that I was the only qualified person who was rejected.

yeah, 3.9+ uw GPA, 2160 SAT, 760-US, 700- Math 1

NHS, Mu Alpha Theta, Youth Leadership St. Louis, JV/Varist Track, lots of community service (hunger outreach project, tutor at inner-school weekly, Hunger Outreach Project, etc) Head of Recycling club, JV/Varsity Rec Basketball League, DECA, worked 2 and 1/2 at Parent teacher store (2-hrs/wk) where I manage the store on some weekdays and weekends (like today).

What did I do wrong?

stevenjm - I am surprised as well! Did one of your references say something that came off the wrong way?

Just in case any of you future Emory applicants want to know, here is the deny letter ( hope you never have to recieve it, and good luck in your endevours)

Address

Dear *******,

The Admission Committee has completed a thorough review of your application. I am sorry to inform you that we are unable to offer you a position in this entering class to Emory College.

We appreciate the time, thought and effort you spent in preparing your application for admission. The Admission Committee takes great care in evaluating candidates. Each year we invariably face the regrettable situation of denying admission to many applicants who have a sincere interest in Emory University.

An official notification of this decision will be sent to you within the next week. On behalf of the Admission Committee, I offer you my best wishes in your future endeavors.

Sincerely,

Jean D Jordan

GOOD LUCK ALL!!!

stevenjm: Maybe some more information and we will help: Obviously, we are not the experts…You may want to call the admissions people and ask them (very tactfully) why you were denied…

Rigor of curriculum: AP’s? Honors? Highest Math Course?
HS Competitive:? How many people have the same very high GPA? Class RAnk?
M/CR breakdown? (Emory doesn’t consider writing)

Also, so you can move on, what other schools are you applying to? There are some amazing publics that only want high UW GPA’s that you may want to look at…

it is obvious that emory, despite its proclamations, has become yet another school that only looks at grades and SAT’s. my child, who is upstairs crying her eyes out is a 4.0/5 student at a very competitive, suburban hs. her sats were 1190 her ecs were extraordinary. she has organized 2 missions to the gulf coast, each time bringing a group of friends with her. she is captain of the debate team, an nhs officer, class officer, varsity athlete and all around great kid. she has outstanding people skills.

did i forget to mention that she is a triple legacy?? both parents and a brother.

oh well, emory’s loss.

from personal experience i know that many kids who start there sucuumb to the pressures of partying and flunk out. probably a product of their parents pushing them too hard to fit the mold that emory seeks.

good luck to all of you.

AAmmom: Ugh, so sorry…we are RD but we feel your pain…SATs that you posted..1190? Even with triple legacy, that sounds a little low…Do you have RD schools that are SAT optional? She sounds so qualified to attend a great school…Not sure where you live or what she is looking for…
