Emory University Transfer Thread Fall 2019

Hey guys I have a question for sending your transcript. Can we (the school registrar) send the transcript to Emory directly instead of sending them to Common App Processing Center? I did not follow the transcript sending directions on Common App.

I’ve sent USC and Emory directly instead of sending them to Common App Processing Center first. This bothers me because I checked USC portal today showing that they received my college transcript, however, Emory’s portal shows that they have not received it yet.

I sent my transcripts to USC and Emory in January so they arrived for sure.

@WalzVonDerPfalz No worries! Good luck to you as well.

I heard putting too much stuff in your application will dilute the oomph of the required essays. Same with how getting too many recommendations may actually backfire than work to your advantage. But don’t take my word for it! Now that I think about it, I definitely should’ve included the personal statement I wrote for the Coalition Application. Oh well. As for my major, I’m entering as a Chemistry major. Although I indicated a strong interest in an additional major in History as well.

Was there a “Common App Essay” for transfers? I couldn’t find anywhere in the Emory application for a “Common App” essay.

Can you guys chance me? Here’re my stats:

College transferring from: US News Top 25 school
Entering as: Junior
Major: Chemistry (pre-dental, lel); History additional major/minor if possible
GPA: 3.81 (I took several computer science courses during my freshman year that DESTROYED my GPA. At least I found out that CS is NOT my thing).
Weighted HS GPA: 4.07/4.20 (I know, weird system).
ACT: 33; SAT Subject Tests: 800 Bio E, 800 World History
Credits completed: 52
Essays: They’re a LOT better than my freshman essays, that’s for sure (rereading them made me cringe for real). I got waitlisted from Emory back in 2017, so maybe my better essay might give me a boost?
LoRs: 2 Academic. Both professors know me really well.
Other schools applied to: Penn, Cornell, WashU, Northwestern, etc.

For some reason I can’t reply but sagaciousforever, my school’s registrar sent my transcript electronically directly to Emory and my portal says the transcript has been received. You should email Emory ASAP. Also, do you think it’s too late to upload my personal statement into the application portal as supplement material?

@koreanamericano You have to @my name to directly reply to me!

Thanks, I will email the admission office! One person from another spread told me that Emory takes longer time than USC to process in order to show “transcript received” in the portal. So maybe this week they will update the information, but I will email them anyways.

Also, the portal allows you to submit your personal statement if you have not done so in the Common Application. It is not too late.

@sagaciousforever It’s hard to say why the Emory transfer thread isn’t more “busy”. Emory has about 230 transfer students or 75 per class. Just remember that College Confidential is only a small sampling of the overall activity.

I do wonder if Emory is all that interested in admitting that same number of rising sophomores as transfers, The Class of 2022 is oversized at both Emory and Oxford and they are dealing with sophomore housing issues.

@ljberkow I would say Emory takes more incoming junior transfers than sophomore transfers. But you still have a good shot so do not worry!

I’m an alumnus. I was just speculating.

I don’t believe most transfer as juniors and that is impractical for business majors who must matriculate one year at Emory before they can enroll at GBS.

There is no way sophomore transfers will get on campus housing. They will probably be relegated to the Clairmont dorms.

@ljberkow D’you know anything about the class size for '21? Hopefully it’s not oversized 'cause I’m applying as a rising junior.

@koreanamericano I’m in the class of 2021. I think our class is somewhat on par with the past classes (maybe a bit bigger) but definitely not as large as the class of 2022.

@ljberkow I am applying for Emory’s Business Administration major with 62 units (after Spring), but I wrote it in my essay that I am fine with spending a year at Emory College. An admission counselor also encouraged me to apply and he said if Emory sees me as a fit they would still accept me.

Class of 2022 is 1,442 and Class of 2021 is 1,404. Not sure how many have transferred out of 2021 and who knows about 2022. Oxford had 537 in Class of 2022 and 482 in Class of 2021. This is all online.

I’m thinking that there might be more sensitivity to 2022 than to 2021. I am just guessing though. They have certainly done some work on finding bandaids for the housing crunch.

Emory has always been good to transfers, so we’ll see and I wish all here good luck.

@ljberkow Thank you for your information!

@gapyearapplicant
So you got into OXFORD college, decided not to go, then want to transfer to Emory? Help me understand!

@emorynavy : They are at a larger/medium research university now, so obviously got cold feet and backed out of Oxford. That is where they wanted to be (a larger research university with the social life or feeling of a larger school). What they shouldn’t have done, is apply to Oxford. Oh well. Now they wanna be at a more 'prestigious" (I guess) medium sized research university. Good luck to them.

Damn I’m out here getting roasted haha. Don’t assume reasons as to why I didn’t go to Oxford! They were many! UMiami isn’t a phenomenal fit and doesn’t have a major/languages I’m into pursuing. I’m a foote fellows honors student here with literally 0 gen ed requiremets, I wouldn’t transfer for no reason… Going to Emory is gonna be a lot more extra work for me

I doubt that admissions would consider that you didn’t accept Oxford or that you didn’t get into Emory in a transfer application. You have excellent grades. I would think that would trump anything from high school. However, I don’t chance people. Looks like you’re applying so some great schools. Good luck!
