I am an international student accepted at Emory and Tufts. But I can't make up my mind on where to go. I here that the weather is much better in Atlanta but that emory is better ranked. Please help... social life, sports (esp. tennis), general atmosphere is important.. Thanx

Hey Bogusguy,

Both schools are great and extremely similar as far as academics, campus size, etc. What are you interested in possibly studying? Can you handle cold weather? I am a Tufts student, so I am obviously biased, but other than weather I think that Tufts definitely has the edge on location and social life. Boston is such an amazing college town and it is so easy to get wherever you need by the T. Yet, we still have our suburban campus (very similar to Emory in that we are right by a city in a grassy campus, but I hear that at Emory you basically need a car to really get around)

Also- Tufts is known for having an amazing International Relations program, which means that our students are exremely diverse and globally aware. Not to say that Emory is any different, but as an international student that is something you should think about...

Lastly- Tufts students are simply NICE, outgoing, fun, and intelligent people. I hear that for the most part, Emory are the same with a touch more materialism.

But congrats! Those are definitely two great schools to choose from. Best of luck in your decision.

Thanks for the advice.. Do you know about the difference between the sports programs of the two unis. I know they are both part of NCAA division 111, but I dont really know what this means! Also I have heard that Emory has a succesful tennis team. Also I know it gets really cold in the Boston area but is it like this all the time... sorry if ma questions sound stupid, im from Tanzania and have never been to the States before...

Oh yeah, and I might be interested in Majoring in Economics, but i'm not sure.. I want to be able to explore my options in Uni...

Just a little bit of background on myself, I live about twenty minutes from Tufts, and two kids in my small class of 170 will be going to Emory next year (including tennis captain Pat Redmond's little brother, who will play tennis at Emory next season).

NCAA Division III means that they are a smaller school. NCAA Division I has the biggest schools and toughest competition, but you're still going to get some good athletes, especially in sports like tennis where teams are fairly small, so not a lot of people can go D1.

You say that "I here that the weather is much better in Atlanta but that emory is better ranked," but Emory IS the one in Atlanta. To give you an idea of the weather in the Boston area, there was snow forecasted yesterday (didn't happen, but it's April and that's certainly something to consider). Overall, the weather is going to be a lot warmer in Emory than Tufts.

Both schools share many similarities. Some differences from an Emory perspective:

Excellent business school- highly regarded
Carter Center
Much larger endowment than Tufts
Excellent advising program
Weather is better
Very low student: teacher ratio

City - I prefer Boston to Atlanta but here is plemty to do in upscale Buckhead, Decatur, etc....

You really can't go wrong since both are great schools.

what about diversity of students? Is it true that both em and tufts lack in this category?

Emory is the lesser of the two when considering diversity.
