My D has some good choices.... She got into Cal and Emory and is looking to major in International Relations. Can anyone advise on which has a better program, and pros and cons? We're OOS any way, so both will cost the same...

Both are great programs, but care and feeding will be far better at Emory for an undergrad. Cal is a big university, with all that entails. IR will require a grad degree to pursue as a profession. She won't have problems getting into a good M.A./Ph.D. program from either school. If she has a dream Ph.D. program, i.e. Georgetown or Yale or something along those lines, you should call their department up and ask their view on Cal vs. Emory, which also both have good IR grad programs.
The biggest factor, it seems to me, is the totally different cultural environment of each place: the Bay Area and Atlanta.
I love and hate both places. :) Be sure to visit BOTH campuses, if possible, and try to see the surrounding city in both places. Very, very different.
Good luck!

emory has an amazing business program, 4th best undergraduate in the nation if that helps. plus its ranked higher as a school so in case she changes her mind, there are plenty of other options.

plus berekley consists of about 9/10 California kids so much less diversity. Emory students come from across the nation and the world
