Apart from receiving the minority recruitment likely thingamabopper, I just officially got accepted to Emory. Now, I seriously dont know what to do. I dont trust US. News to make this decision for me. Emory is in ATLANTA(!!!), but Duke has everything. Help please Duke grads/undergrads!

What do you want to study? That would be more important at this point than a magazine's rankings. Assuming that academics on both campuses may be somewhat "equal," one big difference is "sports." Do you care whether or not you would have a major college sports environment, like going to Duke basketball games or football games? Emory has a fine Div. III program and nice facilities for intramurals and recreation, while Duke is in the Atlantic Coast Conference, with basketball, football, etc. and all the attendant "excitement" of a Division I program.
Another aspect to Duke which Christian students enjoy is the fact that there is a major university church at the center of campus. A student could sing in a 150 voice choir each Sunday, and worship with 1000+ students, faculty and community people. Emory has an active campus ministry program and other churches are nearby, but the Duke Chapel is a truly unique aspect of university life compared to other campuses across the country.
Emory certainly has its strengths, and any comparison between the two may revolve around a particular course of study, cost considerations, and other minor aspects of campus life.

I want to be a doctor, EmoryUNCDuke. So, I intend to study biology/biochemistry.

Good, and congratulations on your acceptances. I suppose the next step would involve doing some comparisons on the strengths of Emory vs. Duke in science, finding out what their undergraduate programs in biology are like: lab equipment, size of introductory classes, taught by whom, etc. Since that was not my field there, I can't speak from experience. If you are able to make a campus visit during April (to both schools), you could go hang out in some classes, talk to some of the biology students, form your impressions...I'm sure one school will start to seem like "the one." Good luck.

Quotes my best friend who goes to Emory (she was denied ED from Duke) showed me from Emory's OWN "The Wheel" newspaper:

"Emory will forever be mired in mediocrity and will never escape the shadow of schools like Duke (N.C.), Harvard (Mass.) and Stanford (Calif.) universities."

"If the administration hopes to compete with the national reputations of Duke University and Stanford University, it must vastly improve how they treat the undergraduate population."

"If we believe Emory should be more than a babysitting squad for students who could not get into Duke University (N.C.) or the University of Pennsylvania, we should start acting like it and begin a serious dialogue about concrete solutions to bring a sense of community to our campus."

"After all, the Woodruff gift is the reason all of us are at this university and not at home wondering why we didn't get into Duke University (N.C.)."

You getting my point here...?

haha thats cool

seriously though, devil may cry, i don't wanna anger any emory students but duke is just a lot better. pm me if you have specific questions...

ill do that.

I may come across as a biased Duke student. I recognize that. But I think that even if I didn't attend Duke, I'd still have the same opinion on the matter.

Send me a PM... :)

I really hate these School vs School threads. It isnt the OP fault, its the people who respond. Saying "X Univ. is better" is not very helpful. It would be more beneficial to the OP of you stated what is good/bad about each school, and let the OP decide which school is better.

..............well?

Dukedreamer--

There's a reason why many people who state "X Univ. is better" follow that up by saying "PM me." I've realized it's a lot easier to talk about such things when I actually know firsthand about one school (and a fair amount about the other through friends there) either over e-mail or on IM or something. You can personalize a conversation without dealing with unnecessary comments from the peanut gallery...

I never really thought about that. Thanks for informing me.

Devil May Cry does that mean you were accepted at Duke too or is it still pending?
