Emory vs Macalester?

Hey, I hope you guys can offer some opinions out there. I have been accepted to Macalester College and Emory University. I want to double major in Chemistry and Japanese/Asian Studies and would like to know which school you guys would go to. I unfortunately can't vist either college (I live in WA state) so any opinions you could offer would be great.

I would really like to do some research with my Chem major and want to study abroad in Japan for at least a semester; my eventual goal is to go to either dental or medical school.

So, what do you think? Feel free to ask any questions to clarify.

My advice is not to agree to go to any college you haven't visited. It is worth the time and money to try to make the best decision for you. My son had a choice between two schools and was leaning toward one of them. He visited both (earlier he just had watched videotaped tours) and took a strong liking for the other one and a disliking to the one he had been preferring. Neither school is close to us but the plane fare was worth avoiding a mistake.

Lotus 123,
I also echo previous post. Both schools are excellent and quite different. Chem is very strong at Emory not sure about Japanese studies.

Did you get school videos, research websites for type of academics, ECs, etc....? Have you read college books about these schools? Emory is a southern school with a strong northeastern representation. Macalester is a small midwest LAC vs Emory; a small/medium sized research university. Emory has an extensive study abroad program as well as very strong resources in the sciences. Emory also has a very low student: prof ratio.

Ultomately you gotta find your best fit.

I don't know anything about Emory, but Macalester also has an extensive study abroad program, low student: prof ratio, and strong resources in the sciences. The chemistry department is very good, and Macalester's record for medical school admissions is excellent. The Asian Studies program is also good.

I'm sorry but I never heard of Macalester.
