Alright, so I got into both of these schools on 25K scholarships, so the cost would be about the same give or take a couple thousand dollars. The only problem is that emory is a 15 hour drive from my house since I live in camden. I've been feeling pretty dead set on emory ever since I found out I got in, but as the deadline to deposit is getting closer, I'm beginning to second guess myself when I imagine what it what be like to be so far from my house. I plan on doing premed, so I think I'd have more opportunities at emory since their hospital's right there. However my two closest friends I've known all my life and my girlfriend are going to rutgers, so I wont be able to see them that much anymore if i go to emory. I visited emory and nyu, and although both were really nice, I think I preferred emory. So basically the only reason I'd prefer nyu is the closer distance to my house. That's pretty much it, and if anyone had any input I'd really appreciate it.

Congratulations on getting into these schools.

We live in the NY area, and my D is at Emory. There have been times I wanted to visit or she wanted to come home and I had to say: can’t – too expensive. Flights home can be as cheap as $89 each way, if you buy well in advance. It’s not like going to school in Boston or Washington DC where you can always get a ride, take a train, take a bus. With Emory, you’re limited to flying home.

However, I would bet that after the first year, the ability to come home when you want will be less important than the quality of the education you get. If you’re interested in pre-med, I believe Emory is stronger than NYU.

Good luck.

Go to Emory! You clearly like it better. It has the same cost as NYU AND its better for what you want to do. You should not choose a college because it will be closer to friends etc. If both people really want the friendship to work then you guys will keep in contact with each other. Also, college is a good time to see new places and experience new things which Emory would give you. Going to Emory would broaden your perspective.
