emory vs nyu

i am debating between Emory and NYU (econ major)

if i go to NYU, i will try to get into Stern (currently CAS econ)
but i heard that internal transfer is very hard though not impossible

Goizueta is not better than Stern but i heard it will be easy to get into

Also, i see emory is ranked #20 and NYU #37 (usnews)
someone told me to go to emory if not in Stern.. do you guys agree?

but it is also true that emory lacks name recognition

can anybody make some suggestions for me?
thanks in advance

You would most definately be better off with a BBA from Emory (Goizueta) than a degree in Econ from NYU. I'm not sure how hard it is to get into Stern from CAS, however, at Emory, it apparently isn't difficult to get into Goizueta junior year. As far as name recognition, Emory, in most circles, has more than NYU.

I think you should stop worrying about name recognition and rankings. For every person who has not heard of Emory, there's another who thinks NYU is where you go if you get rejected from Columbia. Don't worry about what John Q. Public thinks (especially if he's only 17); John Q. Public doesn't know as much as he thinks he does about most things.

If you are planning on going to graduate school, both NYU and Emory have "name recognition." What you did while you were an undergraduate will have more of an impact on your application than which school you went to.

If you are planning on working right out of college, where do you want to work? NYC? NYU would seem to have the advantage there. If you want to go work for Coca-cola or CNN, you're probably better off at Emory.

Have you visited these two campuses? They could not be more different. I can't imagine anyone not having an opinion one way or another, for or against, Emory or NYU, based on the environment alone. There is no campus at NYU. It is in a very big, very noisy city that never sleeps. Some people will thrive on that and take advantage of all that New York has to offer. Others will want to crawl into their dorm every night and hide. Emory is in a suburban area of a smaller but quite vibrant city. The most interesting parts of Atlanta are not far from campus, but they are not across the street either. There are around 20 universities in the greater Atlanta area and there is always plenty to do. But not walking distance from the Emory campus. So if you want to be smack in the middle of a bustling city, you will be disappointed at Emory. But if you want to be near a major city but not right in the heart of it, Emory couldn't be more perfect.

Emory also has a rather rigorous core. Personally, I view that as a positive, but your mileage may vary. I don't know what NYU requires -- I would hope that you have checked this out already. I like the idea that Emory underclassmen can change their minds about business school if they get interested in something else along the way. You do not get admitted to G. until junior year.

Honestly, I think you would be better off trying to figure out where you would be most successful, rather than trying to figure out which school is better known or better ranked.

you are right!
thanks for your input

it really helped me a lot, both of ya
