I got into both Emory and U of Rochester. Rochester offers me a 15k per year scholarship and Emory none. I would like to study premed or something close like biomedical. I am finding it hard to decide where to go between the two. Would anyone like to share your perspective? Thank you!

if your going for med school, by far Emory they work with the Center for Disease Control, they will give u more opportunities. but it depends on how important money is to you, cuz for doctors if u go into med school, ur undergrad only matters if u can get into the school, rochester wont hurt you in those terms, Emory will def. look better, but there no reason why you couldnt get into the school of your choice depending on your med school entrance exam.

The U of R and Emory are both incredible pre-med schools. Whichever one you choose, you will obtain an excellent education.

However, I’m just gonna share some personal info with you. My bro goes to the U of R. He says that a lot of the freshman and sophomore pre-med classes are weed-out classes and he knows a handful of people (including himself) who just couldn’t hack it, including someone who was accepted into the medical scholars program at Miami. I’m not at all saying this will happen to you; I’m sure if you work hard, you should be fine. I have heard that at Emory, the amount of work/effort/understanding you put into a class correlates to the grade you can receive in the class.

Rochester has quite a few good research opportunities and clubs for pre-meds such as the Neuroscience Club, Pre-Med Society, etc. However, I believe that Emory offers way more as far as research and internships goes, as afitscher said.
I’m not sure what Rochester’s rate for pre-meds is into medical school, but I know that Emory’s is 89% as long as you have a 3.5 GPA and a 30+ on the MCAT.http://www.career.emory.edu/parents/pdf/Applicants_Emory_2008_Matrix.pdf

I personally would say Emory if you are debating between these two schools.

i applied to both schools and balked at what i observed as rochester’s heavy focus on science and pre-med tracks, as i want to go into the social sciences. emory has a great science program but you can’t ignore the fact that u of rochester is a much larger research university and is very very strong in sciences

Lol Rochester is not more research omg their endowment is in top eight and have the CDC and yerkees primate center. They work with Georgia tech on engineering research so no emory tops in research and science I’d say
