Until our salutatorian mentioned it, I had never heard of this University before, nor had just about my entire class or my parents.

If it's as good of a school as the posters here are making it out to be, why has nobody heard of it. Is it truly overrated as someone previously said? I'm sorry for my ignorance, but I thought I knew most of the top universities.

post 1 more to break 1000. and no, i’m not from the south, I’m from the west. I’m just curious about how good a school emory is, and what they are mainly good at. again, apologies for my/the west’s ignorance

It could be that Emory isn’t a popular choice where you live, some schools just fly under the radar, like Rice for example. However, to the people that matter Emory is very well known.

Rice always flies under the radar. I’m not sure why.

Emory is a kind of regional school, since a decent percentage do come from the South. But many also come from other regions. International applicants seem to really like Emory.

lol i was joking about the rocks reference, but seriously im from way up north and i hadn’t heard of emory cept i saw it always highly ranked, but then my sister-in-law went there and i visited it when i went down to visit my bro and her, its truly spectacular. and in the south, a degree from Emory or even Vandy for that matter carries the same weight as a Harvard or Yale. you can do whatever you want with one. don’t be fooled by the lack of recognition out west, it’s a big time school no doubt.

It doesn’t have much recognition out west bcos it doesn’t have a football team (on espn). Georgetown and Duke were “regional” schools until Coach Thompson and Coach K, respectively, came to town.
