emory's best department areas

i hear they are renowned for poly sci, psychology, premed and business....
can anyone elaborate

Also English, Women's Studies, Chemistry, Biology/Biomedical Sciences, Religion - really every department has top notch faculty, just like most every other top 25 University.

I hear the art history program is great too. does anyone know any more about that?

Since the Center for Disease Control and the American Red Cross both have their headquarters right across the street, I'd say they are fairly well known for the biological and chemical sciences.

Calcruzer,

Point of information ... I think you meant the American Cancer Society have their headquarters in Atlanta, rather than the American Red Cross. As well, last year the American Cancer Society moved their national headquarters last year from the Clifton Corridor (near Emory) into downtown Atlanta. The CDC remains adjacent to Emory University.

Also, thanks for your comment in the other thread regarding business schools. BTW, I'll be in Santa Cruz the weekend after next...

Yes, I meant the American Cancer Society--thanks for the catch. Also, I was unaware that they had moved downtown.

Hope you enjoy Santa Cruz this weekend--I'll actually be at a winery event in Hollister this coming Sat (Pietra Santa) and have an invite from friends for Sun, otherwise I'd say private email me.

Biology, Chemistry, Neuroscience, Psych, Business (ranked #4) are fantastic. Really, every department is great. The only ones that have less than steller reputaions are Math, Physics, Theatre, and Music.

What about philosophy and economics?

ya i'm very interested in hearing about the economics department becuase i am trying to decide between doing the biz school to complement a political science major or just doing econ as my 2nd major

I have a minor in Economics, and I only really like one of the classes i took. The professors in this department are not that great. A majority of the people who major in Econ had wished they had gone to the business school instead.

so the business school is really top notch even though some people say business week ranked them too high?

would it be a mistake to do business over economics with a political science major with the intentions of going to law school?

I don't think it is a mistake to do business over political science for law school. It will bring diversity to the school since most of the students will already have studied political science. It will also give you experience in necessary skills that your peers will eventually have to learn. I would go for it, if later on you decide law school isn't for you or you get to law school and decide you rather do something else, you will have the business degree to fall back on whereas the political science degree is essentially useless.

but i intended on getting both lol..two interests

i'm sure it'll be fine

thanks all

Middle eastern studies is very strong, so is the religion department. Some fabulous professsors in both.

What is the breakdown in majors in business? Like how does their Finance rank as opposed to their Accounting, et cetera?
