Yeah there isn't one. do people feel like this has a big affect on the level of spirit/enthusiasm/social life there? i love everything else about emory (and i'm not sure how i feel about the lack of football...its not like i'm a football player so it COULD be a positive, i just dont know...)

What do people think??

No football team? That's crazy. How could you go to a school with no football team?

I think its pretty much irrelevant. Most top schools are nothing like big ten schools. Even when the football is there, most of the students don't even go.

Emory Football: Still Undefeated

I had this same concern when I was looking into Emory for S's preliminary list. My feeling was that it would hurt school spirit. S is an athlete in a lesser sport. S said he didn't care at all if there was a football team. It still bothers me a little. Basketball is more important to me, though. :)

OMG no division III football at 1000 people seated football fields???!? what are you going to do??!?!

The point isn't that there isn't a football team- I agree that with many weak programs it is a "who cares" thing. The issue is whether it detracts from the overall "spirit" and causes a school to not support the other teams.

yeah exactly... ahh i dunno becuase other than that i loooooooove emory...

(not that it would make me not go there.. its just a point of interest since im still early on in the process)

I dont think it matters at all. At most of the comparative schools to Emory, the football isnt core to the spirit of the place at all. Dartmouth (my alma mater) went on a losing streak my entire four years, but the school has more spirit than ever. Spirit that is based on being part of an awesome community of people you really like, not based on sports teams (like high school and big schools). Its more important to places like UVA, UNC, Vandy, etc.

No football? What?

I could never imagine college without my team. Then again, we were national champions last year. ;)

However, I think if you "looooooove" the school anyways, then that is what matters. It's true, football can be a lot of fun, but don't not go there just because they don't have a team. It does make for a fun college experience, and if you want that including the aura of football, then you can examine your other options, but make sure you want the whole package of the school you're attending.

College just isn't college without football teams and cheerleaders and frat parties and lots of beer and things like this. Academics is secondary.

it still has frat parties and lots of beer

Yeah, since when did football become a part of this equation? Maybe at places like Michigan where its too big to know the community otherwise, but at most top small/ medium sized schools people really dont care that much, except maybe the band.

William and Mary's football team was awesome this year and the school spirit was great! It was really fun to be visiting on parent's weekend and share in the school spirit.

football = school spirit

i like school spirit but its just a bonus.....not a requirement.

I go to Emory - the football thing doesn't seem to take away from it at all in my opinion.
