Emphasis on grades

<p>How much emphasis is given to grades for admission to top engineering programs like MIT ? If a student has done research as an undergrad, but hasn't published anything, does that hold any weight ?</p>

<p>I am just wondering, what the applicant pool is like. I am sure most of the applicants will have high GPA but don't know how many have research experience.</p>

<p>Honestly, I would expect most applicants to have both. I hope I'm one of them!</p>

<p>You definitely need a perfect or near perfect GPA. I got in without publication but tons of leadership positions and honors.</p>
